Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations 2012

2012 marks the 60th year at throne for Queen Elizebeth II.Hence various activities,celebrations and events have been planned to mark the diamond jubilee of the feat.

The celebrations will be organised from 2nd to 5th June.On 6th of February,1952 the Queen Elizebeth II was throned.The golden jubilee was celebrated with great pomp and fest in 2002.To mark the Diamnond Jubilee,a website has been launched by the Royal Household with latest news,announcements and photographs.

The Queen, Duke and other members of the Royal Family will travel throughout UK and overseas to mark the ocassion. An extra bank holiday is planned on 5th June, 2012 (Tuesday) to mark the ocassion over the extended weekend. England, Scotland and Ireland schools also remain closed on 5th June, 2012.

Events before the Jubilee Weekend

Commonwealth Day: This will be observed in Westminster Abbey by the Queen as the Head of the Commonwealth ON Monday 12th March, 2012.

Diamond Jubilee Pageant

This will be held from 10-13th May in the private grounds of Windsor Castle.

The Central Weekend 2-5 June 2012

Concert at Buckingham Palace

The BBC hosted concert will be held on 4th June, 2012 in Buckingham Palace to celebrate the golden jubilee occasion. The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and other family members are expected to attend this concert.

Service of Thanksgiving

To be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral on 5th June

Thames River Pageant

One thousand boats will muster on Thames River in the afternoon of 3rd June, 2012 to prepare the Queen to lead the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

Big Jubilee Lunch

This will be held on the same weekend commemorating the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Jubilee beacons

On 4th June 2012 thousand of beacons will be lit up to mark the celebrations.

Museums and galleries

The Royal Collection will held exhibitions throughout the year at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
In April 2012, the National Maritime Museum has opened “Royal River: Power, Pageantry and the Thames”.

Apart from these, many other museums and galleries will hold exhibitions elsewhere in UK.
