Srilankan Airlines Limited is a flag carrier of Srilankan. It works a fleet of 12 Airbus airlines to destinations in Europe and Asia from its focal center and base at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport. The trademark phrase of the airline is 'You're Our World'. Logo of the company features a stylize peacock.
Sri Lanka is not a division of airline alliance. And it had joint venture with Emirates Airline, which terminated on 31st March 2008.
Air;ankan airlines was associated through Government of Sri Lanka in July 1979 subsequently the closing of Air Ceylon in 1978. Throughout 1980s, the airline expanded several destinations and made accompaniments to its fleet. And by 1990s, it provided 26 destinations. And in December 1992, Air Lanka bought its first Airbus A320.
In the year of 1998, Air Lanka trade name was discarded and Sri Lanka Airlines was foaled. In the primeval 1990s it had its head office in Colombo.
Srilankan airlines achieved 6 Airbus A330-200s to set off its fleet ofA320-200 and Airbus A340-300 aircraft.
It has been involved through both acts of terrorism and environmental problems. This has comprised the Civil War within Sri Lanka, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, SARS outbreak, and a terrorist attack on Colombo-Bandaranaike airport, which collapsed 4 aircraft and smashed two, suspended half of the airline's fleet. In the year of 2008, Srilankan Govt informed Emirates Airlines that it will not renovate the management agreement which suspended on 31st march 2008.
Srilankan provides 38 targets in 25 countries (1 June 2009).
On 24th July 2001, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eel am commenced a suicide assail at Colombo-Bandaranaike airport that destroyed or damaged 26 aircraft. And 4 aircraft were canceled, comprising an Airbus A340-300 smashed by a volatile charge and an Airbus A330-200 damaged by rocket fired from control tower. Besides, an A340-300 and an A320-200 were smashed in the attack. Overall, six Srilankan Air Force workers, 1 commando and 8 members of the LTTE were killed.
In March 2003, the Skytrax Research Agency’s global passenger survey selected Srilankan for 3rd successive year, 'Best Airline of the Year for Central Asia'. At the equivalent year, Travel Trade Gazette Asia selected Sri Lanka the 'Best Airline in South Asia'. And In the year of 2001, UK Wanderlust Magazine positioned Srilankan 8th in its Top Major Airlines travel awards category.
