Philippines, an archipelago country, is located in the South eastern part of Asia between the South China Sea in east of Vietnam and Philippine Sea.
Its terrain constitutes of mountains with some coastal lowlands. It is located in the center of water and consists of 7,107 islands and islets. On the east, there is the Pacific Ocean and South China Sea is located in the west. The northern cluster of islands in the Philippines is called Batanes which stretched merely 190 kilometers from Taiwan, whereas the southern island of Tawi-Tawi, is a landscape of 60 kilometers away from Borneo.
The nationality of Philippines is Philippine and the population of this country according to the estimation of 2009 is 92.2 million. The annual population growth rate is 2.04% and Malay and Chinese are the ethnic groups which creates the population. The country follow Roman Catholic, Muslim, evangelical, Lglesia ni Kristo, Aglipayan, Christian and some other religions. The language spoken in Philippines is Filipino and the national official language is English, which is the language of instruction in education and also the government language.
The Philippines manifests a tropical maritime climate which is virtually hot and humid. Seasons are three: tag-araw which is hot dry season during March to May; tag-ulan, it is the rainy season between June to November; and tag-lamig, the winter season during December to February. Temperatures generally fluctuates between 21°C to 32°C which can also change based on the season. January is the coolest month and May month the hottest. The average annual temperature is almost 26.6°C.
Amongst the most remarkable peak are Mount Apo in the islands of Mindanao and Mount Mayor close to Legazpi City, and Taal Volcano, situated in the south of Manila. All these peaks are at susceptible to earthquakes.
The longest river of Philippines is the Cagayan, which lies in north central Luzon. Some other rivers of Luzon are Agno and Pampanga. The main rivers of Mindanao include Rio Grande de Mindanao. Laguna de Bay, in the southeast of Manila, is considered to be the largest lake of the Philippines and the Lanao Lake is the biggest in Mindanao.
The Philippines' comprehensive coastlines are home to a diverse spectrum of birds, animals and plants. Almost 1,100 living species, living in land, are found in the Philippines and nearly 100 mammal species including 170 bird species.
The fauna of Philippines includes snakes, pythons, cobra, birds of prey, eagle, palm civet cat, and Philippine tarsier.
With almost 13,500 plant species found in Philippines, 3,200 of these are exclusive to the island. Some rare flora includes orchids, narra, orchids.
