The Republic of Paraguay, widely known as Paraguay is a South American country bordered by Argentina, Brazil and Bolivia. Asunción is the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. Spanish and Guarani serve as official languages. The country has a land area of 406,752 square kilometres. As per the 2009 estimate Paraguay hosts 6,460,000 people. Paraguay is a Constitutional presidential republic.

Major rivers of Paraguay include Acaray, Aguaray-Guazú, Apa, Aquidabán, Bamburral, Carapá, Confuso, Curuguaty, Jejuy, Jejuí Guazú, Manduvirá, Melo, Monday, Monte Lindo, Negro, Paraguay, Paraná, Pilcomayo, Piribebuy, Salado, Tebicuary, Tímane, Verde, Yguazú, Yhaguy, Ypané and Ytambey River. Among these the Paraná River is the second longest river in South America.
Amambahy Plateau, Cerros de Mbaracayu, Cordillera de Amambay, Cordillera de San Rafael, Cordillera de Ybytyruzu, Cordillera de Los Altos, Serra de Amambahy, Serra de Amambai, Serra de Amambari, Serrania San Luis, Serrania de Mbaracayu and Serrania de Ybycui are the mountains in Paraguay. Cerro San Rafael, at 850 m, is the highest point in Paraguay and the lowest point is the junction of Rio Paraguay and Rio Parana which is at 46 m.
