Pakistan International Airlines History
Pakistan International Airlines Corporation, known as PIA, is a flag carrier airline of Pakistan. And it is 31st biggest airline in Asia. It operates planned services to 36 worldwide destinations and 23 domestic destinations in 25 countries across North America, Europe and Asia. And its focal bases are Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.
Secondary bases of the airlines include Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Sialkot and Quetta, from which it attaches metropolitan cities with main bases, Far East and Middle East. Airline is owned through Govt of Pakistan (87%) and additional shareholders (13%). It utilized 18,043 people as of May 2008.
'Pakistan International Airlines' can draw its opening to days when Pakistan was not a self-sovereign state. And in the year of 1946 Muhammad Ali Jinnah realized necessitate for an airline network for form country and imploring facilitate of an entrepreneur Mirza Ahmad Ispahani to expand a flag carrier for the state. In the mean time, airline named 'Orient Airways' which was registered in Calcutta. It was created on 23rd October 1946. And in the month of February 1947, airline purchased 3 DC-3 airplanes from the corporation in Texas. After few month airline achieved the license to fly. And services were begun in June from Kolkata and Sittwe and Yangon. Orient Airways started respite flights to new state and, afterward, it stirred its operations to Karachi, at where it started its flights to Dhaka on 7th June, 1954. Additionally, the first 2 domestic routes in Pakistan were launched, from Karachi to Lahore to Peshawar, and from Karachi to Quetta to Lahore.
On 11th march 1955, Orient Airways combined with government's projected airline, becoming the 'Pakistan International Airlines Corporation'. For the period of same year airline released its worldwide service, from Karachi to London Heathrow Airport with Leonardo da Vinci Airport and Cairo International Airport in Fiumicino, Italy, applying Lockheed L-1049C Super Assemblage. In May 1956, Pakistan International Airlines ordered 2 Super Lockheed Constellations and five Vickers Viscounts 815. In 1959, Malik Nur Khan was named as a Managing Director.

- On 18th of May 1959, Vickers Viscount AP-AJC was smashed beyond financial repair on landing at the Islamabad International Airport.
- On 14th of August 1959, Vickers Viscount AP-AJE stopped at the Karachi International Airport whilst attempting an overrun with 2 engines broken on training flight. And two of three people on board were killed.
- PIA Flight 705 was Boeing 720 – 040 B that stopped while sliding to land on Runway 34 at the Cairo International Airport on 20th May 1965 resulting in 119 casualties.
- PIA Flight 740 was Boeing 707-340C that stopped after impersonation from Jeddah International Airport on 26th November 1979. Flight PK740 left Jeddah at 01:29 for a trip to Karachi.
- In March 1981 a PIA jet was seized to Kabul through Al-Zulfiqar.
- PIA Flight 268 was an Airbus A300B4-203, registration AP-BCP, which stopped on loom to Katmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on 28th September 1992. 167 members were killed.
- PIA Flight 544 was a flight number of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Fokker F27 that was takeover on 25th May 1998. All travelers and team escaped uninjured during happening.
