New Jersey Brief History
New Jersey was earlier a part of New York. In the year 1664 when the Dutch surrendered to England, New Jersey came into existence and became an English colony. It was governed by Gov. Philip Carteret. Later in the year 1676, the colony was divided between a few English Quakers and Carteret who took over John Lord Berkeley. Eventually, New Jersey became an independent colony in the year 1702. It was governed by Lewis Morris.
Today, New Jersey is one of the leading research centers worldwide. Northern New Jersey has a large number of oil refineries and other important industries are apparels, machinery, pharmaceuticals and instruments.
