Mussoorie Hill Station History

Mussoorie as a Queen of Hills is located at a height of 2003 meters in Garhwal hills.  It is one of the beautiful hill stations in India. It offers excellent break to people who want release from hot airless conditions of plains, particularly since it is close adequate to capital to make a weekend trip. Main Hindu pilgrimage places like Kedarnath, Gangotri, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Yamunotri, and Badrinath are not far-off from Mussorie.

Mussorie History

In the year of 1820, Captain Young of British army was affected through the splendor of this place then he made it his house. Mussorie name is issued from the plants of ‘Mussorie’ which were set up in profusion here. And after its detection, the hill station steadily developed as the centre of business, beauty, tourism and education.

Mussorie Attractions

Municipal Garden

Municipal Garden is a picnic spot which has an attractive garden and simulated mini lake with the boating facilities. And it is situated at a space of 4km through pony, cycle rickshaw, by car and mere 2 km on foot with Waverly Convent Road. 

Gun Hill:

Gun Hill provides a stunning panoramic view of Himalayan ranges namely Srikantha, Bunderpunch, Gangotri group and Pithwara etc. and bird's eye view of Doon Valley and Mussoorie town. Gun Hill is a second highest peak of Mussoorie.

Childer's Lodge

Childer’s Lodge is the highest peak of Mussorie which is situated 5 km away from Tourist office. Anyone can go on foot or on horse foot. Its snow view is exhilarating.

Camel's Back Road:

Camel's Back Road begins from the Kulri Bazaar close to Rink Hall and finishes at the Library Bazaar covering the full distance of concerning 3 kms. And the main attraction of this road is walking and horse riding.

Jharipani Fall

Jharipani Fall is 8.5 kms away from Mussoorie. Tourists can go via bus or via car up to 7 kms to Jharipani from where fall is 1.5 kms on foot.

Kempty Fall:

Kempty Fall is 15 kms away from Mussoorie on Yamunotri Road having a height of 4500 ft. It has difference of being the prettiest and biggest waterfall situated in beautiful valley and is within high mountains. Bath at the foot of falls is enjoyable and refreshing for kids and adults equally.

Mussoorie Lake

Recently developed picnic spot, located on Mussoorie- Dehradun road and is about 6 kms from Mussoorie. It is a pleasant spot. Pedal boats are accessible. It orders a captivating view of Doon Valley and close by villages.

Clous End

The lodge made in 1838 through a British Major was one of First Four buildings of Mussoorie. The lodge has been converted into a hotel named Clouds End, and it is located at intense west of Mussoorie Hill which is 8 kms away from Library. It is surrounded by deep forest, provides a wide selection of flora and fauna in addition a panoramic vision of snow clad Himalayas, and Yamuna River. The most preferably suited resort for foreigners and honeymoon couples.
