Transportation of Mississippi
Transportation has been developing in Mississippi rapidly since the last 2 decades. The Government of the state has taken all measures to provide high class public transportation to its residents. This article gives you a proper guide of various transportations which are available in the state.
Road Transportation
Mississippi has some of the most important highways passing through its land. There are exactly 8 interstate highways which connect you to various destinations in the state and 14 US routes which connect you to the neighboring states of Mississippi. Travelling by road is very easy as the roads are well directed and directions are given clearly on the sideways. Even a stranger to these areas will not lose his way after entering this area. Road ways are still being developed for better travel experience in the state. They are also extending the roadways to the remote areas which are normally not travelled by many people.
Rail Transportation
Railways is the fastest mode of land transportation. The whole rail transport of Mississippi is divided into 2 types Passenger rails and freight rails. Passenger rails are the intercity railways which residents can take to travel to various parts of the state. Amtrak is the only passenger rail services which provide local transport services. There are presently only two routes in which you can travel that is the Crescent and the City of New Orleans.
Canadian Pacific and US Pacific are the only class 1 railroads which provide service to Mississippi. There are no other national level railroads which give this service in the state. There are several other local freight services which take cargo in the state. BNSF Railway, Kansas City Southern Railway, CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway are some among them.
Water Transportation
As it has many rivers in the state, there is a necessity for having water transport in the state. Mississippi river has the heaviest traffic among all the rivers. As there are many cities which rest on the banks of Mississippi, ferries and other water transport run a lot on these waters. Apart from the rivers there are also many lakes which provide water transportation. Arkabutla Lake, Grenada Lake, Sardis Lake and Ross Barnett Lake are some of the heavily travelled lakes.
