Manali Hill Station History

Manali is a significant hill station in mountains of Himachal Pradesh, India, close to the northern end of Kullu Valley.

Organizationally Manali is a division of Kullu district. Manali and nearby area is of great importance to Indian culture and legacy as it is believed to be the residence of Saptarshi, or Seven Sages.

Manali History

Manali is located in central part of Himachal Pradesh. Manali is 32 km far from Kullu Valley and 108 km away from Mandi and 280 km north of state capital shimla.  It is situated at a height of 2050 meters on the top of sea level. It is spread all along the Shore of Beas River. Manali has an ancient myth at the back of its name. In accordance of Hindu mythology, the seventh embodiment of Manu, Vaivasvata, found a small fish in his swim water. A fish said him to take care of it with loyalty. Then Manu look after for fish till when it matured so big that he unconfined it into sea. Before leaving, the fish informed Manu of a looming flood when the complete world would be flooded and bade him to make a seagoing ark. And when the deluge came, Matsya (fish), the former avatar of Lord Vishnu, towed Vaivasvata and Seven Sages to protection. As water collapsed, 7th Manu's ark came to relax on the hillside and place was named Manali behind him. 

Manali Weather

Summer temperatures are calm and light cottons/woolens are recommended. Winter temperature can fall below chilly point at what time weighty woolens are mandatory. There are deep forests, crammed with bird song and cool breezes.

Monasteries

It is known for Buddhist monasteries and shiny Gompers. It is kept through donations from local area and through auction of hand-woven carpets in the temple practicum. 

Rahala waterfalls

This place is situated 16 kms away from Manali. It is a beginning of the climb to Rohtang Pass.

Rohtang Pass

Rohtang Pass is a peak point on Manali-keylong road. And it offers a broad panoramic sight of mountains growing far on the top of clouds, which is really a wonderful view.

Solang Valley

It provides the sight of glaciers and snow capped mountains and crests. And it has well ski slopes. And The Mountaineering Institute has fixed a ski lift for working out purpose.

Adventure activities

Skiing is available at Rohtang La and Solang Nullah. At the Solang Nullah The Mountaineering Institute is a fine training institute. And Heli skiing is potential at profound snowfields. Allied Sports and the Mountaineering Institute is approx 3 km away from Mall and provide kayaking courses and mountaineering. 

There are a number of superior hikes from manali. Lama Dugh field is 6-km trek up to Manalsu Nala, west of Manali town. 

How To Reach

There are several flights to Delhi with Shimla. The neighboring narrow-gauge railhead is at the Joginder nagar which is away from 135 km. By road, the space from Delhi by way of Mandi is 585 km, and from Shimla the space is 270 km.
