Kingfisher Airlines began its operations on 9th May 2005, following fry lease of 4 new Airbus A320-200 aircraft. And its primary flight was from Mumbai to Delhi. At the beginning of airline, Dr, Maliya stated that he is "committed to achieving our ambition of making Kingfisher Airlines India's largest private airline both in capacity and market share by 2010."

Kingfisher was the primary Indian airline to have in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems on each seat even on conjugal flights. The entire passengers were provided a "welcome kit" consisting goodies such as a headphones, pen and facial tissue to employ with IFE system. In the beginning, passengers were capable to observe merely recoded TV programming on IFE system but afterward a coalition was made with Dish TV to present live TV in-flight. In marked departure from custom, Kingfisher airlines determined to have on-screen safety demonstration employing IFE system.

On 14th July 2008, it revealed its first Wide-body airplane, and an Airbus A330-200 (registered VT-VJL) at 46th Farnborough Air show apprehended in July 2008. Its first bus A330-200 was broadly billed (in accordance with airline's press release) as the finest A330-200 ever built via Airbus.
On 3rd September 2008, it began its international operations through connecting London with Bangalore. On 15th September 2009 London service was introverted.
