Italy is a peninsula located in Europe. Surrounded by Adriatic Sea in the east, Ionian Sea in south, Tyrrhenian Sea and Ligurian Sea in the west. Italy shares its bounders with France, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia on its northern side. Italy covers an area of 301,338 sq km. Italy is subdivided into 20 regions of which five regions have the autonomous status made up of Abruzzi, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Remagna, Liguria, Lombardia, Marche, Molise, Piemonte, Puglia, Sardegna, Toscana, Trentino-Alto Adige, Umbria, Giulia, Lazio, Valle d'Aosta, Veneto, Sicilia, Friuli-Venezia and Basilicata.

Rome being the capital of Italy with history in it and the laws in Italy is followed according to the Roman Culture. The Crime rate and Mafia in Italy are considerably higher in growth. The main source of power comes from Solar energy, being the fourth largest producer of Solar Energy and wind power.

Italy has a total population of 58,133,509. While Italian is the official language, others include German, French and Slovene.

Italy Mountains

Italy has two mountain ranges, namely

  • Alp mountains
  • Apennine mountains-It is the backbone of Italy, from where it goes to join the Alps.
  • Mont Blanc or Monte Bianco- this is the highest Italian mountain summit.

Italy Volcanoes

Italy has two reputed volcanoes, namely

  • Mount Vesuvius- This 1,281 meters tall volcano close to Naples is presently dormant. 
  • Mount Etna- 3,326 meters tall Etna is active posing a threat to the Italians.

Italy’s Padan Plain is drained by Po, the longest river of Italy. The rivers of Italy include,

Climatic Conditions:

Italy has very different climatic conditions mostly mountainous. The climatic conditions in Italy are harsh through winters and hot through summers due to its Longitudinal extension of the peninsula. The temperature is low, snowy winter and wet in higher lands with dry summer, mild winter and warm around the flat ends.The Coastal areas or the lowland valleys can be hot.


Italy is compressed of road, Air, water and railway transportation. It is rich in transportation with annual earnings exceeding 100 billion euros. Italy runs fastest train in Europe and considering the pollution, Italy has high levels of Carbon Dioxide in major cities. Being the largest tourist attraction place of the world and has historical places to visit.
