Indian Railways Tatkal Rules

Indian Railways provide train tickets, under this Tatkal Rules.

Indian Railways Tatkal rules starts five days before the date of journey excluding date of journey.Indian Railways Tatkal rules office opens at 8 AM in the morning.

Passenger needs reservation under tatkal rules need not produce any identity proof nither at the time of reserving nor during the Traveling.

As an alternative of full coach being allotted as Tatkal Coach, there will be Tatkal quota in each train in 2A, 3A, AC Chair Car and sleeper classes

They are as under:-

• 2 AC - 4 berths per coach
• 3 AC - 6 berths per Coach
• AC Chair Car - 6 seats per coach
• SL - 10% of the accommodation on one coach which is less

According to Indian Railways Tatkal rules, the normal utilization of Tatkal accommodation in above said classes of the trains during six months period i.e. April to September is 80% and above, tatkal charges valid during this period will be charged through out the year i.e. for both peak and non peak period.

Accommodation to be allocated under Indian Railways Tatkal rules should be improved as under

• There is no distinct train called Tatkal. According to Indian Railways Tatkal Rules, the unused Tatkal quota will be allotted to passengers who allotted wait-listing status ticket.


• Indian Railways Tatkal charges have been revised as per Indian Railways Tatkal rules

They are as follows:-

• The reservation shall be available only before the time of charts preparation comes below this Indian Railways Tatkal rules.


• The time bound will be the same as applicable for refund of normal tickets for conceding refunds.


• REFUNDS - 25% of total ticket amount, without tatkal charge will be refunded on cancellation of tatkal ticket, 24 hours before the schedule train departure. On the other hand, full refund of amount and tatkal charges will be returned on the tickets reserved under this Indian Railways Tatkal rules in the following situations.

They are:-

• If the train is delayed by more than 3 hours at the journey starting point of the passenger & not the boarding point if the passenger's journey starting point and boarding point are different.
• If the train is running in a different direction and passenger is not prepared to travel.
• If the train is running in a different direction and traveler boarding station, the destination or both the stations are not in the similar direction.
• In case of non attachment of coach in which Tatkal accommodation has been allocated and the passenger has not been provided accommodation in the same class.
• If the traveler is not willing to travel who has been provided accommodation in lower class.
• If the traveler traveling in lower class will be given refund of different of fare and also the different of Indian Railways Tatkal rules.
• The Indian Railways Tatkal rules will be done only from Starting Station to Destination Station of the train with boarding facility from midway station. However, Zonal railways have been given the caution of imposing limitations on Tatkal booking regarding important trains as end-to-end or keeping it free or imposing distance restriction etc.
• Prior information on availability, over all utilization of the room in the train.
