The Great Barrier Reef stretches over 3 thousand kilo meters almost parallel to the Queensland coast. The reef is about 65 km wide in some parts. It has a great collection of beautiful and vivid coral providing divers with the most spectacular underwater experience. It has a world’s biggest collection of corals even more than 400 different kinds of corals like coral sponges, molluscs, dolphins and rays. It also contains more than 1500 species of tropical fish. Many types of birds and reptiles including turtles and giant clams over 120 years old can be seen there. Great Barrier Reef is a breeding area of humpback whales. It has got recognition of world heritage site in 1981 by UNESCO.

In year 2006 many operators, vessels and aircrafts are permitted to operate in the reef marine park to provide easy access to have experience of the Great Barrier Reef.
