Barack Obama, the first African American President of the United States was born in the Capital city of Honolulu at the Kapiolani Medical centre on August 4th in the year 1941. His parents are Barack Obama Sr., from Kenya and Ann Dunham from Kansas. They met while attending the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Barack Obama II became the 44th President of the United States in the year 2008, four years after being elected as the US senator from Illinois and is the most prominent figure from Hawaii recognized and respected, by everyone in the world.

Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku
Duke Hulikohola Kahanamoku was born at Waikiki, Hawaii onAugust 24, 1890 and is the first Olympic medalist in Swimming. He is also regarded as the ambassador of the modern sport of surfing as he had done a lot to popularize this sport of Hawaii. The name 'Duke' was not a title but was inherited from his father Hapalu Kahanamoku who was christened 'Duke' in honor of the Duke of Edinburg, Prince Alfred, who was at Hawaii when Hulikohola’s father, H Kahanamoku was born. Akebono Taro, a sumo wrestler was born at Waimanalo, Hawaii on May 8, 1969, as Chad Haaheo Rowan. The name Akebono, which he adopted as a wrestler, means 'dawn' in the Japanese language. He reached the highest rank of sumo, Yokozuna , in January 27, 1993 when he was just about 24 years old and also became the first foreign born wrestler to reach this rank. He won the Emperor's cup eleven times during his thirteen years of sumo wrestling carrier and that too, with a record of 566 -198 in the top division.
