“The Fairy Queen”, an Indian train was built in 1855 travelling between New Delhi to Alwar in India. This locomotive has been certified as the oldest operational locomotive in India by the Guinness Book of Records. The Fairy Queen that runs on the lines of Palace of Wheels was constructed in Leeds, England in the year 1855, and was brought to Calcutta the same year and crowned as the Fairy Queen.
Initially owned by the East Indian Railway and tagged as number 22, this locomotive has captured the National Tourism Award gracing the National Rail Museum of New Delhi has started steaming once again after being completely over lugged in 1996. This beauty started its steaming again in 1997 for a 2 day/ 1 night tour from Delhi to Alwar famous Sariksa Wildlife Sanctuary operating only on the second and fourth Saturdays of October till March.

The Fairy Queen covers Delhi, Alwar and the renowned Tiger Reserve in Sariksa. It offers its privileged passengers two-day and one-night package with a tour to the beautiful city of Alwar, Delhi’s historical monuments, and the wildlife sanctuary of Sariksa.
Only 50 lucky people get a chance to experience The Fairy Queen. It boasts one AC chair car coach. Attached to it is a pantry car to provide catering services to its passengers. To give its privileged passengers a scenic view of the countryside, the Fairy Queen has a beautiful lounge in its front. This train takes its passengers to Hotel Sariksa Palace on its first day, where they are welcomed with traditional dancers presenting various cultural programs.
The round trip package of two days/ one night for adults is INR 7,500 and INR 3,750 for children (5-12 years of age). Foreign passengers will be charged as per the customary exchange rate of INR in US $.
The Fairy Queen locomotive weighs 26 tons seeking a water capacity of 3000 liters’. With a diameter of 2-2-2 driving wheel, it can run on a speed of upto 40 Kmph.
