Deccan Odyssey

The Deccan Odyssey, a special train inspired from The Palace of Wheels is advancement in the Indian Railway tourism industry. This luxurious train starts from Mumbai travelling through Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Goa, Belgaum, Kolhapur, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Ajanta-Ellora and returns back to Mumbai. This train is an undertaking by the Government of Maharashtra and the Ministry of Indian Railways and Government of India.

The Deccan Odyssey stops at tourists spots and is a luxurious 5 star hotel on wheels hosting two restaurants, one bar, a sauna, business centre and other basic cum lavish services to its passengers on board. The comfortable coaches for its passengers were manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory that is located in Chennai.

This lavish tourism train ceased its services in 2004 due to poor response, but the government of Maharashtra started back its services after the monsoon season.  

Destinations

The Deccan Odyssey covers out of the ordinary destinations such as Mumbai- the land of dreams and Bollywood, Ratnagiri, Jaigadh, Ganapatipule, Bhatye Beach, Goa, Sindhudurg, Tarkarli, Sawantwadi, Pune, Aurangabad, Ajanta and Nasik in seven days/ eight nights. Coaches

The Deccan Odyssey has 21 beautiful and lavish coaches, out of which 13 are completely air-conditioned for its passengers. These 13 coaches have 11 passenger cars, 4 double bedded rooms and 2 Presidential Suite Cars with 2 coupes per car. Each coach has a lounge attached where the privileged passengers can relax and enjoy the countryside view in the daytime.

This tour train has 2 restaurants that serve its passengers yummy Indian delicacies. The conference hall it has is usually redesigned at night as a dance floor. Attached to it is a bar for passengers’ entertainment and drinks. The Deccan Odyssey has a spa to rejuvenate passengers. Apart from all these facilities, the train holds generator cars that store luggage.

Tariffs

The Deccan Odyssey takes its passengers for a seven day/eight night tour for which it charges US $ 650 for single occupancy, 500$ for double occupancy and $425 for triple occupancy; for presidential suite, $ 950, $ 800 for single and double occupancy respectively. Alternatively, the passengers also have an option to book this tour for a minimum of three days.
