Cuba, officially known as the Republic of Cuba is a Caribbean island nation. Havana is the largest city and capital of the country. It covers an area of 109,886 square kilometres. As per the 2010 estimate the population of the country is around 11.2 million, making Cuba the most populous country in the Caribbean. Spanish is the official language of the country. Cuba includes 15 provinces and one special municipality. A tropical climate prevails in Cuba.
Cuba's fifteen provinces include Pinar Del Río, Artemisa, La Habana, Mayabeque, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila, Camagüey, Las Tunas, Granma, Holguín, Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo. The island of Isla de la Juventud, also known as Island of Youth, is the special municipality in Cuba.
Laguna de Leche and Zaza Reservoir are the main lakes in Cuba. Laguna de Leche is Cuba’s largest natural fresh water lake. Zaza Reservoir covering 113.5 square kilometres is the largest artificial reservoir in Cuba.
Cuchillas Del Toa, El Yunque, Sierra Cristal mountains, Topes de Collantes and Pico Turquino are the major mountains of Cuba. Pico Turquino which has an elevation of 6,476 ft is the highest point in Cuba.
Almendares River, Bayamo River, Buey River, Canímar River, Caonao River, Cauto River, Contramaestre River, Cuyaguateje River, Damují River, Guamá River, Guantánamo River, Guaso River, Hanabana River, Jaibo River, Jiquí River, Jobabo River, Mantua River, Máximo River, Mayabeque River, Najasa River, Río de la Palma, Río Jatibonico del Norte, Río Jatibonico del Sur, Sagua la Chica River, Sagua la Grande River, Salado River, San Diego River, San Pedro River, Saramaguacán River, Tana River, Toa river and Yumuri River are the major rivers in Cuba.
