China Airlines History

China Airlines is the State airline of the Republic of China. They are among the foremost airlines in China, the hub being in Tapei at the location of the Taoyuan International Airport. Chinese Airlines is not directly owned by the state but by the China Airlines group, which is in turn owned by the aviation department of the Chinese government.

They have a coverage in 27 countries which includes 84 cities. China Airlines is the recipient of several awards for excellence in service in terms of efficiency and quality. Training is a very important consideration in this organization and there are several regular training programs for employees at all levels to ensure highly professional competency at all times.

History of China Airlines

  • In the period preceding the Chinese Civil War three airlines operated in the Republic of China.
  • Following the Chinese Civil War, the new government scrapped the other two to form China Airlines in 1959.
  • The fledgling airline started with a couple of PBY Amphibians which were initially operated on a charter basis between Taipei and Hualien.
  • Over the next 20 odd years, China Airlines expanded gradually.
  • The first international destination for this airline was Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
  • Soon Los Angeles, Johannesburg, Dhahran, Honolulu and New York were added.
  • Today, China Airlines boasts a fleet of hundreds of Boeing and Airbus aircraft with several hundred destinations to its list.

  • China Airlines flies to locations in Asia, Oceania, North America and Europe.
  • Regular flight destinations of China Airlines include Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai.
  • They operate about 140 flights a week to Taipei, Hong Kong and Kaohsiung. China Airlines also owns its subsidiary, Mandarin Airlines entirely which looks after its requirements of servicing secondary cities.
  • There have several changes in the policies and presentation in the history of China Airlines which were mostly due to changing political scenarios such as changes in the logo and livery of the airline.
  • In a bid to avoid international repercussions, the national flag logo of China Airlines was replaced by the plum blossom logo in 1995.
