Cayman Airways History
Cayman Airways is considered as the nationalized flag carrier of Cayman Islands. And with its headquarters in Grand Cayman, it works as a domestic and scheduled passenger transporter, with the Cargo service accessible on every ways. Its procedures are based at the Owen Roberts International Airport, Grand Cayman.
Cayman Airways History
The airline was established on 7th August, 1968. It was made by following Cayman Government's procure of 51% of Cayman Brac Airways, from LACSA, and Costa Rican flag carrier, and became entirely government individual in December 1977. The airline managed provincial services from the Owen Roberts International Airport in George Town, Grand Cayman to the Garrard Smith International Airport on Cayman Brac. In the beginning, the airline's plane was a particular DC-3. After few months it was formulated,Cayman Airways flew its primary international way to Kingston, Jamaica, on charter BAC 1-11. Worldwide service to Miami started in 1972 by a single leased Douglas DC-6. And the airline obtained its primary jet aircraft; the BAC 1-11 in 1978, and startedservices to Houston. In the year of 1979, a 2nd BAC 1-11, Britton Norman Trislander and a dealer Siddleley Avro 748, were acquired. The airline swapped their two BAC 1-11's with Boeing 727-200 airplane in 1982, escalating the airline's international and regional capacity, and it was also permitted for the first rate service. Finally these jets were swapped with Boeing 737-200's. Formerly for the period of the 1980s,Cayman Airways provided charter or scheduled service to Boston, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Newark, Detroit, Minneapolis, New York, St. Louis & Philadelphia.
The airline resisted all through the early 1990s, though financial support from the govt, financial reformation a latest fleet and new purposes such as Boston, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale and particularly Havana (in 2003) have assisted the airline.
Cayman Airways Logo
Mascot Company is a beautification of unique Sir Turtle (image on top of the logo) which was planned by Suzy Soto, companion of Bob Soto of Scuba Diving fame. As first planned, Sir Turtle didn’t have the red flying scarf. That unique design was applied on baggage stickers through Cayman Islands traditions and became the logo of Department of Tourism which was started by Eric Bergstrom. After it Mrs. Soto was wedded to Eric Bergstrom, with whom Soto created the Tortuga Club on the East End of Grand Cayman. Later the red flying scarf was attached to Sir Turtle in 1978 through Capt. Wilbur Thompson, the Chief Pilot ofCayman Airways at the time, and that customized Sir Turtle became the airline's latest logo.
