Brazil, officially known as the Federative Republic of Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world in terms of geographical area. It covers an area of 8,514,877 square kilometres. As per the 2010 estimate the population of the country is 190,732,694. Brazil includes 26 states and one federal district. The capital city, Brasília is located in the federal district. Portuguese is the official language of the country. A humid tropical and subtropical climate prevails in Brazil.

Brazil States

The 26 states of Brazil are Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Alagoas, Sergipe, Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, Paraíba, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceara, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Maranhão,  Goiás, Piauí, Rondônia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Tocantins, Acre, Amapá, Mato Grosso, Amazonas and Roraima. Amazonas is the largest state among these. The most populated state is Sao Paulo.

Brazil Rivers

Major rivers that wind through Brazil are Amazon, Parana, Iguaçu, Negro, São Francisco, Xingu, Madeira and Tapajos rivers. Among these rivers Amazon is the world's second-longest river. It ranks first in terms of volume of water.

Brazil Rain forest

Amazon rain forest, the world’s largest tropical rain forest is in Brazil. It occupies more than half of Brazil.

Brazil Islands

Major islands of Brazil include Bananal Island, Brazilian Island, Itaparica Island, Clubes Island, Restinga Island,Retiro Island and Villegagnon Island.

Brazil Lakes

Billings Reservoir, Corumba Lake, La Gaiba Lake, Guarapiranga, Lagoa Juturnaiba, Mandiore Lake, Marfil Lake, Mirim Lake, Paranoá Lake and Uberaba Lake are the major lakes in Brazil.

Brazil Plateaus

Plateaus of Brazil include Brazilian Highlands, Chapada and Guiana Shield. Brazilian Highlands spreads over an area of 4,500,000 square kilometres. Pico de Neblina which is 2,994 m high and the highest point in Brazil.

Brazil Wetlands

Pantanal, Porto Jofre and Taim Ecological Station are the major wetlands of Brazil. The Pantanal, the tropical wetland of Brazil is the world's largest wetland.

Brazil Volcanoes

The volcanoes in Brazil include Nova Iguaçu Volcano, Pico do Cabugi, Trindade and Martim Vaz.
