Brazil, officially known as the Federative Republic of Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world in terms of geographical area. It covers an area of 8,514,877 square kilometres. As per the 2010 estimate the population of the country is 190,732,694. Brazil includes 26 states and one federal district. The capital city, Brasília is located in the federal district. Portuguese is the official language of the country. A humid tropical and subtropical climate prevails in Brazil.

The 26 states of Brazil are Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Alagoas, Sergipe, Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, Paraíba, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceara, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais, Bahia, Maranhão, Goiás, Piauí, Rondônia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Tocantins, Acre, Amapá, Mato Grosso, Amazonas and Roraima. Amazonas is the largest state among these. The most populated state is Sao Paulo.
Brazil Rivers
Major rivers that wind through Brazil are Amazon, Parana, Iguaçu, Negro, São Francisco, Xingu, Madeira and Tapajos rivers. Among these rivers Amazon is the world's second-longest river. It ranks first in terms of volume of water.
