Bhimtal is a city and nagar panchayat in Nainital area in state of Uttarakhnad, India. It is located at an elevation of 1370 meters on the top of sea level. It is approximately 22 km away from Nainital. Bhimtal is famous for Bhimtal Lake which has an isle at its centre. As well sightseeing, Bhimtal has become a district headquarters as several district administration offices has been transferred to newly erected Vikas Bhawan.  Bhimtal provides to visitors a quiet break and amenities for water sports. Bhimtal Location

 Bhimtal is situated in northern part of state of U.P. which is northern area of India. It is situated at an elevation of 1370 meters on the top of sea level in the middle of Kumaon hills. Bhimtal’s climate is alpine. Winters are cold (November-February) and    summers (April-June) are easygoing. Rainy seasons experiences in july-September.

Bhimtal History

Bhimtal is an olden place which is named after Bhima of Mahabharata. And Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple aged Shiva temple which is in the Shore of Bhimtal Lake. And it is alleged to have been made when Bhima went the place throughout the eviction (vanvas) time of Pandavas. This temple was made in 17th century, through Baz Bahadur (1638-78 AD), the Raja of Kumaon and King of the Chand dynasty.

It has been walk-out for travelers of district from hills to plains or vise versa for a long time. And the old strider road is still in make use of here and this street joints close to Kathgodam to all Kumaun district and even to Tibet and Nepal . It might have been the division of famous olden silk route.

Places To See

Nal Damynti is a small innate lake. It is approximately 2 km away from Bhimtal. It is alleged that fort of renowned king Nala sink into this lake. And it is a very holy place for dwellers of district.

Hidimba Parvat is a hill which is 5 km away from Bhimtal. it got its name from sprite Hidimba of Mahabharata. Vankhandi Maharaj, a priest and ecologist lives on hill now, and has formed an asylum for wild animals in the region of the hill. This region is known as Vankhandi Ashram.

Kartotaka hill is alleged to be named after Karkotaka, a mythical cobra. Kartotaka hill is renowned for its Nag temple in district and on Rishi Panchami hundreds of people come to this temple and adore the Nag Karkotaka Maharaj. And this one is considered one of popular Nag temples in Uttarakhand area.

Naukuchiatal is 4 km away from Bhimtal. And it is a lake which has 9 corners. Like Bhimtal, Naukuchiatal has quiet lush environs, which magnetizes traveler to it. This tree-fringed lake is superior for boating. 

Sat Tal (factually seven lakes) is 7 km away from Bhimtal. It is a different significant place to visit. And Sat Tal was initially a bunch of seven lakes, in which two have withered. It is well-known for boating and fishing. The thickly wooded hills and little streams along the banks of lakes are a recurrent attraction to tourists. 

Godhakhel Temple is 3 km away from Bhim Tal.

Bhimtal does not have its private airport. The adjoining airport is at Pant Nagar (55 km) and the adjoining railway station is at Kathgodam (23 km). it is well connected through bus with Kathgodam and Nainital. Tourists can reach Bhimtal through hiring taxi from Kathgodam or Nainital.
