World Games established in 1981 by the International World Games Association, a multi-sports event that accommodated the games and sports that were not in the official list of the Olympics such as squash, casting, fin swimming, netball, and water ski.
IWGA appointed Cali, Colombo as the host country for the World Games 2013. Opening rights will be on the 25th of July and the event ends on the 4th of August. Athletes, sports and government officials from 83 confirmed nations, majority of which are from Colombia, Germany, France, Australia, Italy, and Japan will participate in 26 official sports ad 5 invitational sports.
IWGA hopes that the popular sports being contested in the World Games would eventually find its way to the official list of contested sports of the Olympic Games. During the eleven day span of the multi-sports event, it promotes not just camaraderie among its participants but also provides recreation, sight-seeing, and cultural engagement. Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Velez emphasised his gratitude to the World Games 2013 as it will expose his people to the fascinating world of sports, as well as giving the country the opportune time to promote its tourism and development.
