A global multi-sport event for youths- Winter Youth Olympics 2012, is scheduled to happen in Innsbruck from the 13th to the 22nd of January. The host city of Winter Youth Olympics 2012- Innsbruck, Austria; inaugurates the Winter Youth Olympics, a giant sports and cultural festival famed in the practice of the Olympic Games.
The idea of Youth Olympics was initiated by a delegate of Austrian International Olympic Committee, Johann Rosenzopf in the year 1998 to overpower the concerns of childhood obesity, and the decrease in engagement of youth in sport activities.
While the Youth Summer Olympics 2010 lasted for 12 days, the Winter Youth Olympics 2012 will be held only for 10 days. This sport event features athletes between the ages of 14 and 19 only. The IOC and the Host city will afford the cost of Winter Youth Olympic 2012, but the travel conveyance for athletes and coaches are borne only by the IOC.
As on May 2011, 1,058 athletes from over 64 countries around the world are awaited for Winter Youth Olympics 2012.
