Thailand Etymology and history

The official name of Thailand country was Siam till the 2nd World War; but then it was changed to Thailand. The term Thailand has probably arrived from the term ‘Thai’, the name of a language.

It is believed from historical facts that Thailand land was inhabited around 10,000 years ago during Paleolithic period. From the later half of the 13th century, various empires and local people like Khmer Empire, Tai, Malay Kingdom etc came and settled here. After the fall of the Khmer empire, several Buddhist kingdoms ruled over this region. The kingdom of Ayutthaya was established during the mid-half of 14th century. The current era of Rattanakosin of Thai history had started in 1782. The under the reign of the famous Chakre dynasty leader Rama I, the city of Bangkok was chosen as the capital of this country. Colonial powers started exploring this region for trade purpose and thus arrived here in the 16th century. Thailand Government and politics

Thailand nation is divided into 75 provinces;
some of them are-
Ang Thong, Chai Nat, Lop Buri, Nonthaburi, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Phichit, Tak, Uttaradit etc.

The political condition of Thailand has remained crucial right from of the 2nd World War. Amazingly Thailand has 17 constitutions and this country has witnessed every type of reign that starts from the electoral democracy to the military dictatorship. But the constitution that was written in 1997 is significant as it was truly a constitution for the need of the common people. In this year the bicameral legislature, made of 500 seats and the 200-seater Senate were directly elected. The senate here is basically formed upon the province system. Members of House of Representatives are elected for a four-year term and the Senators have 6-year terms. Here the constitutional court guided by the parliamentary acts, deals with every type of political and royal matters. But for the past couple of years, Thailand is suffering from political instability due to the conflict between the military or Junta forces and the government.

Thailand Education system

The education system of Thailand is quite appreciatable and thanks to a very well-organized primary and kindergarten schooling system, Thailand enjoys a high rate of literacy. Private sector of education in Thailand is also very improved and here one can find numerous school, colleges and universities for every type of study. Education is obligatory up to Grade 9; the government also provides education free-of-cost up to the Grade 12. As Thailand was never colonized by any European power for a stretch of time, the education-system here doesn’t follow any particular European model.

Thailand Geography

Thailand is one of the largest countries in entire Asian continent, Thailand is a fine combination of long valleys, long monsoons, tropical climate and several attractive tourist spots. But one thing for sure that Thailand holds a very unique geographical setting that all together has made it as one of the finest travel destinations in Asia. Winter is cool and here you would get lots of rain while travailing. The northern part of this country is having some beautiful hilly areas and mountain ranges to please your eyes and mind. The southern part is made of narrow Kra Isthmus that ultimately meets the Malay Peninsula.

Thailand Economy

Thailand one of the fastest economy growing countries in entire Asia. The GDP growth rate is also very high.  The government for the past 1 decade has also been quiet instrumental in bringing foreign investments and creating the ideal atmosphere for industrial development. Major exporting items of Thailand consists rice, footwear, textile, rubber-products, fishery-products, electronic goods, automobile engineering parts, jewelry items etc. Infact the rate of foreign investments have also risen to a great extent for the past 4-5 years.     

Thailand Culture

The culture of Thailand is actually like mixture of the great tradition and heritage of the neighboring countries like India, china and Cambodia. Here you would find the ancient tradition of the Buddhism that has still been maintained. Apart from the practice and all the rituals of Buddhism, Thailand also gives a cultural panorama of the surrounding south-east Asian countries. The traditional Thai culture is always a gift for the tourists in this country. the cuisines of this country is also quite popular.

Thailand has won 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 10 Bronze medals in the Summer Olympic Games.
