Tanzania History

The initial history of Tanzania goes way back to the 1st century BC, the time when it was the island called Zanzibar. But it came to the picture during the 18th and 19th century after becoming a German colony. During the First World War, this place became a crucial spot for the German Military and then the intervention of the League of Nations. Not only had the Germans, the British also started dominating this place from the 1960s. The political instability has also been part of this country alike any other African nation. Political violence for the past 3-4 decades has also been a main reason for this country for not having a smooth sailing history. The history of this country will remain incomplete without mentioning the economic turmoil of the 1980s. Then on the facilities of the educational and the health sectors of this country has not yet improved to a large extent.  

Tanzania Politics

The president of Tanzania is considered as the head of the country. The members of the National Assembly of Tanzania as well as the president here are elected by the general elections in every 5 years. The president has the power to choose the prime minister and the cabinet also formed under the approval of the president. According to the constitution of Tanzania, the president also holds the power to recommend 10 non-elected members of the Parliament. These members are also eligible to become the cabinet ministers. The National Assembly of this country is made of 295 members. Women seats contain 20% of the total seats. Currently CCM is the ruling party of this country having got hold of 93% of the total seats of the Tanzanian assembly. The number of special seats in the in the parliament has been increased. This nation has a 5-level judiciary system that combines the jurisdictions of the tribal, Islamic along with the British common law.

Tanzania got freedom from the hands of the UK government in the year 1961.

Covering an area of about 365,877 sq m, Tanzania is a combination of mountains, lakes, rainforests along with the typical natural settings of the African continent. The high mountain peaks and the waterfalls of this country is truly a picturesque site. Central portion of this country is made of large plateau and arable land. But it gets really hot in the summer in Tanzania. Another famous thing to see here are the wildlife parks and the wild lives that attracts thousands of tourists from different part of the globe to this country.

The official currency unit of Tanzania is Tanzanian Shilling. But you would not be having any problem while exchanging US dollars or Euro in Tanzania.

Tanzania Economy

The bulk of the economy in Tanzania is dependent upon the growth of various agricultural products. Adverse climatic condition, lack of infrastructure and many other things have been standing like obstacles to the economic growth of this country. Agriculture industry is the main resource of economic growth in this country and Tanzania also has a good collection of natural resources like gold and diamonds. Tanzania is also quite famous for having the collections of rich gemstones. The beautiful national parks and other natural beauties are the main spices of the tourism industry here, that can be developed if the overall infrastructure can be improved. but for the past some years, the economy seems to be much better here which is improving in banking sectors and other small scale industries.

Tanzania Culture

Music is probably the main spice of the lives of the Tanzanian people. Here you would get to hear typical and traditional African music. The hip-hop style of Bongo-flava music of Tanzania is world-famous. The taarab singers of this country have also earned lots of fame worldwide. Some of the famous artists of this country are: Bi Kidude, tatu Nane etc. Tanzania has also given birth to some of the greatest writers and poets of Africa.
