Sweden Etymology and History

Sweden has a prehistoric past which starts from the late 12,000 BC this period is marked with the hunters-gatherers and fishers who uses flint technology. In 400 BC Sweden is marked with the Nordic Bronze age. The third phase that is the period of 1700 BC is marked with the bronze imports from the European countries. The Nordic Bronze age is regarded as Pre-Urban age when the people have started to live in single storied wooden long houses.

The Viking age at Sweden lasted from the 8th to 11th Century. Vikings were remembered on many stones, which are ruined (Ruin stone) in Sweden. In the 14th century Sweden was hit by Plague (Black Death). The German merchants influenced many of the Swedish cities at this time. In the time of 18th-19th century population of Sweden increased significantly. Some Scholars at that time figured out that mass emigration to America can handle the situation. It is estimated that around one million of the people migrated to United States during this period.

Industrial revolution made the people to approach cities in the search of work.

Music – musical trend is something, which is also rich as like the literature of the Sweden. Heavy metal, hip-hop and Jazz are some of the common music that is immensely popular among the country people.
Media – Swedes has one of the largest newspaper readers. The country’s main newspapers are Dagens Nyheter, Goteborgs Posten and Svenska Dagbladet. The licensed television service started of in Sweden in the year 1956. Digital terrestrial television got time to spread its feet on Sweden’s land in the year 1999.
Cuisines – Sweden also have the common thing like all the other Scandinavian countries that all the cuisines are simple. Potatoes, fish and meat are the most common part of almost every food in Sweden. Akvavit is the most famous distilled alcoholic drink. Drinking of snaps and Akvavit is the part of the culture.
