Swaziland Etymology and History

Swaziland is the country, which has got the pre-historic evidences still alive under its boundaries. The pre-historic cave paintings are a good example of this. The Khoisan hunter-gatherers are regarded and known as the earliest people at Swaziland. Later came the Bantu tribe, which replaced the Khoisans. Sothoand Nguni are the two languages, which were spoken by the people of the Bantu tribe

King Sobhuja 1st was the person who established the enlarged Swaziland kingdom in the 19th century. Swaziland was firstly; tried to be dominated by the South African Republic but after a long effort they failed in it. Later on second time the United Kingdom dominated Swaziland.

Swaziland Demography

The ethnicity, which prevails majorly in Swaziland, is known as to be Swazi, which has a mixed number of Zulu and white African people. Most of the people in Swaziland are farmers and herders but because of the urban influence people mix this tradition with their modern work. The people at Swaziland are supposed to have a life span of 32.2 years which is little half less than the world average living age that is 65.8 years.

  • Language – si`swati is the language used by the people of the Nguni group. It is widely spoken in Swaziland and in South Africa as well. Being used in wider part of the countryit is the official language of the country.

Swaziland Government and politics

The King along with his mother leads the government in Swaziland. King was designated as the heads of the state whereas the mother of the king is designated as the spiritual and the national head of the state. King Shobuza of Swaziland suspended the Westminster style constitution in the year 1978. The royal majority of the Parliament backed this decision of the king. The international community is ignoring Swaziland’s human rights records despite of royal regime.

Among the major cultural event the famous Reed dance is famous among the people pf Swaziland. 

Swaziland Economy and Infrastructure

The economy hold by the Swaziland can be considered as Kleptocratic economy. Kelptocratic economy is the small economy, which look after the benefits of a minority with the relation of power. In the year 2004 Swaziland came to light because of the AIDS crises. Almost 38.8% of the total populations were infected with HIV.

United Nations envoys on AIDS declared that Swaziland is the only stand-alone country, which has the highest number of AIDS, infected peoples. Swaziland has a good number of mines ofdiamond and coal, which it uses extensively for export. Swaziland gets a good amount of revenue from the Coca Cola Company, which has made a concrete plant in Swaziland because of its cheap sugar. Coca Cola Company exports in large parts of world.

A large number of industrial firms were established in the recent years with the help ofSwaziland industrial development company (SIDC) and Swaziland industrial promotionAuthority (SIPA). Swaziland has seen a boost in economic growth because of the large foreign investments in the manufacturing sector.

Swaziland Geographical setting

Swaziland spread over an area of 17, 364 Sq Kilometer. Swaziland has its boundaries connected to two major countries, which are South Africa and Mozambique. Swaziland offers a large number of places for its natural landscapes, among which mountains which are along the Mozambique border, savanna in the eastern part and tropical rain forest in the northwest.Usuthu River is the major river that flows through Swaziland.

Swaziland got its freedom as a commonwealth of nation on September 6th 1968.
