Suriname Etymology and History
Suriname was being explored by a large number of European explorers majorly by Spanish, French, Dutch, and English. Along the Guyana plains English and Dutch firstly established their colonies. The use of African slaves for the plantation of cocoa, coffee, sugarcane and cotton was a common practice by the Dutch. Many slaves run off from the plantation practices because of the bad behavior of the Dutch people. The run away slave people established their own tribe, which is known as to be the Maroons.
Suriname was given the limited self-government in the year 1954. Later on the full independence was granted to Suriname in the year on 25th Nov 1975 after the negotiations of NPK (the local government).

The maroons and crelos inhabitants equally follow the dual Christianity that is the Protestants and the Roman Catholics respectively. Suriname has the GDP of US $ 1.22 billion with an increasing rate of 5.8 % per capita. Suriname government faced a slow economic phase during the year 1998. However before this, Suriname also faced the power fall in the year 1996, because of the end of the structural adjustment program, which was considered as a poorer element of the society.

Suriname is known as a small country situated in Guiana Shield in South America. On the basis of geographical settings the country can be divided into two main parts the first one is northern lowland, which is a coastal part, and another is that is the southern part, which comprises of tropical rain forest and along its border with Brazil it has Savanna. Suriname’s 80% of the land surface is covered with the forests of the Savanna and the tropical rain forest.

The leniency of the Dutch people, which agreed on giving the right to Suriname to have the limited government, paved the way for the complete independence for the people of Suriname. With the half independence in 1973, a local government, which was led by the NPK, started some negotiations with the Dutch government regarding their complete independence.
Finally, the negotiation’s result comes out to be in the favor of Suriname and Suriname got its much-awaited completed independence on 25th Nov 1975.
