The Solomon Islands is the country which is situated in east of the Papua New Guinea in the Melanesia which consists approximately 1000 islands. All together they cover the total area of 28,400 sq km. The capital city of the country is situated in the Gudalcanal Island.

Solomon Islands History:

It is supposed that the population who speak Papuan began to settle in Solomon Islands near about 30,000 BC. The people who speak Austronesian arrived in the circa around 4,000 BC and these people also brought the elements of culture as outrigger canoe. The ancestors of the Lapita and the Polynesians arrived with their featuring ceramics from Bismarck Archipelago. The prime European who discovered this island was Alvaro de Mendana de Neira who was the navigator of Spain and has arrived from Peru in the year 1568.

The Solomon Islands are the constitutional monarchy which has the parliamentary system of the government. The monarch of the country is the Queen Elizabeth II and is also the head of state. The Queen is represented by governor general who is selected by Parliament for the terms of the 5 years. The representation of the parliament is based on constituencies of the single- member.

 

Solomon Islands Culture:

In the customary culture of the Solomon Islands, the customs that are old aged are handed over from the one generation to the other, allegedly from the spirits of the ancestral to create the cultural values to country. The most famous sport in the country is the soccer and along with it, netball is also famous.

Honiara is the largest and as well as the capital city of Solomon Islands. The country is located at 90 28’S 1590 49’E. The total population of the city is 49,107 according to the census of the year 1999 and in the year 2003 the total population of the city is estimated as 54,600. This city is also the capital of Guadalcanal Province, though it is the town which is separately administered.

 

Solomon Islands Currency:

The official currency of Solomon Islands is Solomon Islands dollar which is abbreviated as SBD. The dollar is the official currency of the country from the year 1977. Normally the dollar is abbreviated as the $ sign or sometimes by SI$ to make it differ from the other currencies which are dollar dominated. The dollar is further divided in 100 cents.
