About Slovakia:

Slovakia is the landlocked country which is situated in the Central Europe and covers the total area of near about 49,000 sq km and has the population of near about 5 million. The country borders in west to the Austria and Czech Republic, in south to Hungary, in north to Ukraine and in west to Poland. The country is also the state member of NATO, WTO, OECD and European Union.

Slovakia History:

The tribes of the Slavic were settled in Slovakia in 6th century. The major centre of the Samo’s Empire was the Western Slovakia in 7th century. In 8th century the Slavic state which was called as the Principality of Nitra came into existence in 8th century. The ruler of the Slavic state Pribina had the first and well known Christian church in the country which was consecrated in 828. In combination with its neighboring country Moravia, the country principality created the core of Empire of the Great Moravian in from 833.

Slovakia Demographics:

The large group of the population in Slovakia is racially Slovak that formed near about 85.8% of the total population. The biggest racial minority group is the Hungarians that formed only 9.7% of the total population. The other racial groups in the country as per the census of the year 2001 are the:

  • Ukrainians or Ruthenians (1%)
  • Roma (1.7%)
  • Unspecified or other (1.8%)

The official language of Slovakia is the Slovak. The country is also the member of Slavic Language Family. The other language which is also spoken widely in the south of the Slovakia is the Hungarian.

Slovakia Government and Politics:

Slovakia is the parliamentary democratic republic that has the system of multi- party. On 17th June, 2006 the last elections of the parliament was organized and the 2 rounds of elections of the president were held on 3rd April, 2004 and on 17th April, 2004.

The head of the state is the president of Slovakia who is directly elected by the famous vote for the term of 5 years. Most powers of the executive lies with Prime Minister, who is head of government. The remaining members of the cabinet are appointed by the president on suggestion of Prime Minister.

Slovakia Culture:

Poultry, pork and beef are major meats which are consumed in Slovakia and pork is the most famous by the considerable margin. Among the poultry, the most common among them is the chicken, although the turkey, goose and the ducks are also established well. The Game meats, particularly venison, boar and rabbit are also broadly available in the entire country.

Slovakia Economy:

Slovakia has achieved the tricky transition from centrally planned economy to the contemporary, high income of the market economy. The main privatizations are completed nearly. The banking segment is completely almost in the hands of the private sector. The country is characterized by sustained elevated economic growth. The yearly growth rate of the country is projected at 10.4% in the year 2007.

Slovakia Education:

The education in Slovakia consists of the system of the free education which is based on the ten years of the mandatory attendance in school. Many schools in the country particularly the universities are controlled by state since from 1990’s. The country also consists of the private and church- owned schools. The country has the ten years of the mandatory education.
