In February 21, 2008, the International Olympic Committee is declared that the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games will be held in Singapore. The 2010 Summer Youth Olympics is the first Summer Youth Olympic Games. The duration of the Summer Youth Olympics is 13 days from August 14 to 26 in 2010. This is the 19th Olympiad of Olympic Games.
Summer Youth Olympics – Bid Process:
There are five cities are selected to the short list. They are Athens (Greece), Bangkok (Thailand), Moscow (Russia), Singapore, and Turin (Italy). Singapore and Moscow are selected final list. International Olympic Committee is declared that Singapore was won the right to conduct the 2010 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
2010 Summer Youth Olympics – Bid Details:
Singapore is the host of the 117th International Olympic Committee Session. Singapore prepared its first formal bid to conduct a multi-sport event of this scale. On October 16th, 2007, Singapore provided high-publicity campaign and commenced first official website, bid emblem, and a bid slogan “Blazing the Trail”. Singapore obtained local public support for bid, and collected 1 million signs from the students to support of the games. More than 1500 entries are submitted for the logo competition for 2010 Summer Youth Olympics.
At first, Singapore designed the high tech Youth Olympic Village in University Town of the National University of Singapore. After, the Youth Olympic Village is shifted to the National Institute of Education in Nanyang Technological University, Jurong West. The ‘Jurong West Sports and Recreation Centre’ will also provide outstandingly in the games. The plan has two new venues, the ‘Olympic Village’ and ‘Equestrian Complex’. They will spend 423 million dollars for Olympic Village Plan at the University. The budget is 75.5 million dollars.
2010 Summer Youth Olympics – Accommodations:
The Bid Committee will arrange 4,310 assured rooms in 36 hotels for accommodation. The International Olympic Committee Hotel is ‘The Ritz-Carlton Millenia Singapore’. The Accommodation for Media and the MMC is at ‘The Marina Bay Sands’.
2010 Summer Youth Olympics – Transportation and infrastructure:
There are 30 minutes journey from all the competition and non-competition venues of the Youth Olympic Village (YOV), the Main Media Centre (MMC) and the Olympic Family hotels (OFH) in Singapore.
An Event Transport Operations Centre (ETOC) will arrange the transportation for Summer Youth Olympic Games venues.
Singapore Changi Airport is provided its service and linked with above 80 international airlines with 130 airports from Singapore. Currently, the Singapore Changi Airport has three main terminals, and a budget terminal.
Preparation for 2010 Summer Youth Olympics:
Singapore has got some worldwide support for the Summer Youth Olympic Game's preparations. China is desired to help Singapore in Summer Youth Olympic Games. The London Organizing Committee Chairman Lord Sebastian Coe is told that the members, coaches and administrators of his committee will be sketched to contribute the event.
2010 Summer Olympic Sports and Events:
There are 27 sport events in 36 disciplines including aquatics (diving and swimming), Cycling, Gymnastics (Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline) and Volley Ball (Indoor and Beach) in 2010 Singapore Youth Olympics.
