Officially the country is known as Republic of Senegal. It is a country which is situated in the south of River Senegal in the western Africa. The country is bordered in west, by Atlantic Ocean, in east by Mali, in south by Guinea- Bissau and Guinea and in north by Mauritania.

History of Senegal:
The Archaeological findings in all the areas of the country have indicated that the country was inhabited from the prehistoric times. Once the eastern Senegal was the part of Empire of Ghana and was significantly founded in middle valley of River Senegal by Tukulor. The dominated religion in the country is Islam, which was firstly come in region in 11th century. The area came under influence of Mandingo Empire in 13th and the 14th century. The Empire of Jolof of the country was also founded at that time.
Demographics of Senegal:
The country has the total population of near about 11 million, out of which 70% resides in the rural areas. The population density in these regions varies from approximately 77 persons per sq km. The World Refugee Survey 2008 that was published by the U.S. Committee for the Immigrants and Refugees said that the country has the inhabitants of the asylum seekers and refugees that numbers near about 23,800 in the year 2007. The large number of this inhabitant is from Mauritania.

The country is republic with very powerful presidency; the president of the country is elected in every five years, amended in the year 2001for every 5 years, by the worldwide adult suffrage. The recent president of the country is Abdoulaye Wade, who was re-elected in the March 2007. The country has more than the 80 political parties. The unicameral National Assembly includes 120 members who are selected separately by the president. Also the self governing judiciary exists in the country.
Senegal Culture:
The country’s musical heritage is known better than the many African Countries, because of the popularity of the mbalax that is the form of the Wolof percussive music. This music was become popular by Youssou N’ Dour. The Sabar drumming is particularly famous.
Economy of Senegal:
The economy of the country is based on the agriculture of the sector, chiefly on the peanut production which is the self- effacing and is also the increasing services sector. The agriculture sector has employed near about 70% of inhabitants and has also accounts the 2/3rd of the exports revenue.
Infrastructure of Senegal:
The country has very well developed infrastructure as when compared to the many other countries of Africa. The World Bank has estimated that there are 507 km of the roads which is paved in the year 1995. According to the notes of the World Fact book 2001 there are 14,576 km of the highways out of which 4,271 km are paved. Though railway system is however antiquated. Education in Senegal:
The education in the country is compulsory at primary stage among the age group of 7 to 13 years. Nevertheless due to lack of the facilities, in the year 1999 only 62% of the children were enrolled in the primary school. There were 1,026,570 students, 18,373 teachers and 3,884 primary schools in the year 1998. In the year 1999 the pupil and the teacher ratio was 51:1. The adult literacy rate in the year 2000 was 62.7%.
