Officially the country is known as the Independent State of Samoa. It is the country which is governing western part of nation Islands archipelago in the Pacific Ocean in south. The country was admitted on 15th December 1976 to United Nations. The complete island group, including American Samoa was formerly known as the Navigators Island because of seafaring skills of Samoans.

History:
The country is the group of the islands in Pacific Ocean, approximately 150 south of equator and 80 easts of international datelines, which is approximately 1700 miles northeast of New Zealand. The country is made from the 9 islands. The largest among them in the terms of population are the Upolu and Savai’i, the other among them the Apolima and Manono are being inhabited. The constitution of the year 1960 formally came in the force with Independence, which is based on pattern of the British of parliamentary democracy, which is modified to take version of customs of Samoan. The two among the four princely titles during independence were given the appointments of the lifetime to hold jointly office of the head of state.
Culture:
The traditional culture of the country is the mutual way of the life. In the culture of the nation all the activities are completed together. The culture of the country includes 3 major parts i.e. Music, Family and Faith. The customary houses or the living quarters consists of no walls and near about 20 people can sleep on ground in same fale. At the day time the house is used for relaxing and chatting. Many of the people in the country speak Samoan, though population of the Swains Islands generally speaks the Tokelauan.
Economy:
The economy of the country traditionally depends on the agriculture exports, private family remittances from the overseas and the development aid. The Agriculture employs near about 2/3rd of the work force and also furnishes the 90% of the exports which features the coconut oil, coconut cream, copra and noni. The tourism is the expanding sector that accounts for near about 25% of the GDP. The government of the country also called for the deregulation of encouragement, investment, financial sector and continuation of the fiscal discipline.

The infrastructure of the country is developing day by day. The major islands of the country, the Savai’i and Upolu are serviced well by 790 km of the roads, out of which the 40% are paved. Near about all the villages are accessed by the bus services and the road. These islands are also linked wit the car ferries and passenger with the common sailings. The existence of the ferry services, road and the size of country means that the domestic air journey is considerably rare.

The adult literacy rate in the country is projected above 97%. The formal education in the country is offered by Department of the education and by the 5 religious missions. The mission schools and the government have same common examination and syllabus. The system of the government school is more comprehensive, almost with all the teachers that holds the Samoan teachers certificate.

Geographical Settings:
The islands of the country are been produced by the volcanism, the resource of which is the geologic hotspot that is the possible result of the mantle Plume. As all islands have the origins of the volcanism, only the island Savai’i had the current eruptions and can also be considered as volcanically active. The country covers the total area of 2,831 sq km.
Independence:
The country gained its independence from New Zealand on 1st January 1962.

Apia is the official capital and also is the largest city in Samoa. The city is situated at 130 50’S 1710 45’W.

The official currency of the country is Tala which is donated as WST.
