Etymology & History of Portugal -

The term Portugal had probably come from the Roman name ‘Portus Cale’. This entire region was actually settled by the Pre-Celts and ancient races like Gallaeci, Celtici and Lusitanians had inhabited here. This entire region was actually inhabited by different type of ancient European people at different times and this is why Portugal is a mixture of a varied range of culture. During the 9th century, the first country of Portugal was formed. And afterwards many serious battles took place here among the invaders to this country. In the 14th century Portugal and England had made an alliance and it is considered as the longest-standing relation/alliance of the world history. After 15th century, Portugal became one of the main colonial powers that had explored various African nations.  

Portugal Geography-

The climate of Portugal is Mediterranean and it is one of the hottest European countries. Usually you will get a sunny weather during the summer and spring season and towards the northeastern part of the country one would find an extreme conditions. But people love to visit this country because they find the weather can be resisted and your mind and eyes will get plenty of entertainment here by seeing beautiful snowy mountains, long lash green fields along with some splendid natural scenery. The versatility of land and weather has made Portugal one of the finest travel tourist destinations in all over Europe. Gorgeous snow falls, lakes and long stretch of river are always ready to greet you.

Government and politics at Portugal -

Portugal, a democratic republican country, is mainly governed by following the constitution written in 1976. Four main governing bodies of this country are: the president, the assembly, the government and lastly the courts of the republic. Portugal has no state religion like many other European countries and secularity is strictly maintained in this nation. Here the president is elected for a period of 5-years. Present president of this country is Anibal Cavaco Silva and the president has the right to choose the council of ministers. Portugal parliament is dominated mainly by two big parties called; Social Democratic Party and the Socialist Party. Some of the minority parties here are; Unitarian Democratic Coalition, Ecologist Party ‘The Green’, CDS-PP etc.

Portugal Capital city-

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is one of the traditional and culturally rich cities of the entire European continent, has every modern amenities like markets, malls, restaurants, pubs etc.

Portugal Economy-

Economic growth of this nation is heavily dependant upon the automobile and the software industries. Apart from that the other industries upon which the economy of this country is dependant are: textiles, footwear, clothing, cork, various wooden products and different beverages like wine, juice, beer, soft drinks etc. Major heavy industries of Portugal include automotive, oil refineries, cement production, textile, paper industry, furniture items etc. Portuguese wine is also quite famous all over the world.
Also in the field of scientific revolutions this country has improved a lot and thus the IT industry here is also mounting fast.

Demographics of Portugal -

 Native Portuguese people are actually a combination of Celts, Pre-Celts, Lusitanians along with Romans, Germanic tribal races, Moors and some Jews. For the past 10 years the population of this country has increased a lot due to a large of number of people coming from neighboring countries and from Latin America, Eastern Europe and even from China. The majority of the Portuguese are Roman Catholic, but a big percentage of the total population consider themselves as non-practising, mainly in urban lands. Most crowded cities of this country are: Lisbon, amadora, Porto, Braga, Almada, Setubal etc.
