The Arab Games are a multi-sport event held between nations of the Arab world and organized by the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees. The Pan Arab games were first held in the year 1953 in Alexandria and currently held for every four years.

The official approval to start Arab games were approved by Ahmed EI Demerdash Touny, who was an active member of the International Olympic Committee and an Egyptian National. Ahmed Convinced the parties of the Arab League that Pan Arab Games should be held to build a strong bond and unity among other Arab nations. The Arab nations have agreed to participate in Pan Arab Games as agreed by the Arab League to start the competition and it was first organized in the year 1953 in Alexandria from 26th July to 10th August 1953 , and currently held every four years. In the first Pan Arab games, eight Arab nations and Indonesia participated. The main purpose of the Pan Arab Games is to bring sporting performances and success among the people of Arab nations. Women were first allowed to take part in Pan Arab games of the year 1985.

The Main Idea to implement Arab Games was from the first General Secretary of Arab League, Abdul Rahman Hassan Azzam (1945-52).
