Pakistan as of now has won 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 4 Bronze medal in the Summer Olympics and yet to win a medal in the Winter Olympics. History and Etymology of Pakistan -The term Pakistan actually means the ‘land of pure’ in Urdu. The whole Indus region, which actually covers most part of Pakistan, has been the site of numerous ancient cultures that includes the Neolithic era of Mehrgarh and the Bronze era of Indus Valley Civilization (approx. 2500 BCE – 1500 BCE) at Harappa and Mohenjodaro. To go through history, we find that a galore of migrants and conquerors at different times came and migrated here- Harappan, Persian, Parthioan, Afgan, Kushan, Arab, Mughal etc. the entire region of the Punjab and Sindh had become aligned with the famous Indo-Islamic civilization. During the 19th and the 20th century this place was heavily exploited by the British. Time of freedom of Pakistan -The modern state of the Republic of Pakistan was formed by cutting a portion of India by the British in the year 1947. Government and politics at Pakistan -The government and the parliamentary system of this country was mainly based upon Government of India Act (1935) till 1956. The 1973 constitution of Pakistan which was suspended and then re-instated in 1991 is actually the foundation of the modern day government of Pakistan. The bicameral legislative assembly of this country is made of 100 head senate & the 342 member of the National Assembly. The President is considered as the head of the state and the Prime Minister is the leader of the biggest party within the National Assembly. But one of the characteristics of the political system of Pakistan is that right from the beginning; the mainstream politics has always been influenced by the military system. Geography and the surrounding countries of Pakistan -Covering an area of about 340,405 sq m, Pakistan is a combination of mountains having icy peaks, desert along with beautiful sandy beaches. The lagoons and the mangroves look gorgeous and tourists really enjoy it. Here you would get fascinated by seeing famous mountains like; the Himalaya, Hindu Kush and the Karakoram. The climate is also varies from one part to the other part of the county. Economy of Pakistan -This is considered as one of the fast-developing countries of Asia. The economic growth rate is 7% but for certain political reasons the growth rate has declined over the years. It has a large foreign debt of almost US$40 billion. But barring the upper class the general living condition of the people here are not that great; infact it is hard and tough. But the good news is that the foreign investments have started coming and the developing industries like; software, textiles, fertilizer etc. but the research have shown that Pakistan needs to develop a lot to become a full-grown industrialized nation. Demographics of Pakistan -With a huge population, Pakistan is a land of versatility in every aspect of life. Main ethnic groups of this country are; Punjabis, Pashtuns, Sindhis, Seraikis, Muhajirs and others. But for the past some years and especially after the Afghan-US war, immigration has become a major problem for the Pakistan government to deal with. Urdu is considered as the national language and English is the official language here. Punjabi, spoken by most number of people here, is not officially recognized in Pakistan. People belong to different religion can be found in this Islam dominated country. Education system here is divided into various levels such as primary, middle, higher level, intermediate, university and so on. Presently there are 740 vocational and technical institutions in whole Pakistan. All the academic education organizations are the liability of provincial governments. Pakistan Culture-Cultural ecstasy is something that you can’t afford to miss while touring here. As we know that many races at different times came and ruled here, so today you will be seeing a blend of Mughal, Afghan and other cultural reflections in the customs and traditional events of the lives of the Pakistanis.
