Etymology of New Zealand:

It is not known that whether Maori has given the name to New Zealand before arrival of Europeans, though they referred to South Island as Te Wai Pounamu and the North Island as Te Ika a Maui. Till 20th century, North Island was referred as Aotearoa. In the conventional Maori usage, the name is referred for the entire country. Generally Aotearoa is used in sense in the New Zealand English.

History of New Zealand:

It is the one of most currently settled main landmasses. The Eastern Polynesians were the first settlers in the country, perhaps in series of the migrations, some of the times among 800- 1300 AD. In the subsequent centuries all these settlers were developed in the distinct culture which was called as Maori.

Demographics of New Zealand:

The country has the total population of approximately 4.2 million, out of which nearly 78% are recognized with the European racial groups. The large number New Zealanders Europeans are of German and British ancestry, though there are significantly Dalmatian, German, Dutch and Germanimmigration with the indirect European colonization through the South Africa, Australia, South America and North America.

Government and Policies at New Zealand:

The country is the constitutional monarchy with parliamentary democracy, though the country has no codified formation. The chief formal statement of the country’s constitutional structure is the Constitution Act of the year 1986. The head of the state is Queen Elizabeth II and is given the title of Queen of New Zealand under Royal Titles Act of the year 1974.

The most part of the traditional culture of the country is derived from the roots of the British. The culture of the country also consists of the principal influences from the Maori, Australian and Americans culture, combined with further European cultures and also more currently Asian and non Maori Polynesian cultures. The big festivals in celebrations of Chinese New Year and Diwali are organized in many large centers.

Developed and the prosperous economy with the projected nominal GDP of US$128.1 billion. Thecountry enjoys the high standard of the living with the projected GDP of US$30,234 in year 2008. Thecountry has made the large profits in the median household income.

Education at New Zealand:

The education in country is technically free for the entire secondary, intermediate and primary schooling. Nevertheless, many schools in the country also demand the voluntary donation from parents which is informally called as the parental contribution or the school fees. The Program for International Student Assessment which is coordinated by OECD recently has ranked the 3education of the country as 7th best in entire world, which is principally higher than OECD average.
