The country Nepal is officially known as Republic of Nepal or Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. Nepal is the landlocked country which is situated in the South Asia. Nepal is surrounded by India in east, south and west and by China in north. The mountain rangeHimalayas runs across country’s western and northern parts.

Etymology of Nepal:
It is believed by the scholars that the word Nepal is taken from term “Nepa”, which described the Kingdom of Newar, today which is known as theKathmandu Valley. With the help of the Sanskritization, the term Nepa becomes Nepal. The calendar of Nepal Sambat is named after the kingdom of the Newar. The Nepal Sambat is the main calendar used in the country and also testifies the antiquity of the country.

History of Nepal:

In the 12th century, the leaders were raising whose names ends with Sanskrit suffix malla. The Neolithic tools that were found in valley of Kathmandu indicated that the peoples are living in the region of Himalayas from 9,000 years ago. It is also appeared that the people who are of Kirant civilization are living in the country from at least 2,500 years.

The country is perched on southern slopes of Mountains of Himalayas, the country is racially diverse as the terrain are of broad valley and fertile plains and also is the highest peak of mountain in the entire world. The country has seen the sudden political changes in the last 2 decades. Till the year 1990, thecountry was the absolute monarchy which is running under control of the executive of king. Faced by the movements of the people’s against absolute monarchy, in the year 1990, the King Birendra agreed to political reforms of the large scale by establishing parliamentary monarchy with prime minister as head of government and king as head of state.

The culture of the people in country is diverse, which reflects to the different racial groups of people. Newar community is affluent in the cultural diversity, the community celebrates the number of festivals and this community is also known well for their dance and music.

Economy of Nepal:

In the year 2005, the GDP of the country was US$39 billion, which makes it as the 83rd largest economy in the entire world. The agriculture in the country is near about 40% of the country’s GDP, industry comprises of the 22% and the services comprise of the 41%, the service employs the 18% of the workforce, craft and manufacturing based industries employs 6% and agriculture 76%.

The country’s foreign and the planner’s aid donors viewed establishment of infrastructure as fundamental for the success of the economic development of the country. The 5 years plans prioritized communications and the transportation, but though the results were important, they remain insufficient. Currently, the country adopted the policy of open- sky and also permitting the private airlines for operating the international and national services.

Education in Nepal:

The modern education in country started with creation of first school in the year 1853. Nevertheless, this was the only school for members of ruling families and also their courtiers. For general people, the schooling started after the year 1951 when the famous movement ended the regime of the Rana family and also initiated the democratic system.

In English the currency is called as the Nepalese Rupee and is known as the Nepali Rupayiaah in the Nepalese language. The currency of the country is different from srilankan, Indian and Pakistani rupee.

The total population of the country according to the census of the year 2008 is 29,519,114 which placed it at number 40th among the category of the 193rd  most populated countries in the entire world.
