History of Namibia

Since the early times by the Bushmen, Naamaqua and Damara; Namibia’s dry lands were inhabited. 14th century introduced the country with the Bantu expansion. European could not extensively explore the region till 19th century. Namibia was colonized by the Germany and was called as the German South West Africa. During the World War I, the colony was occupied by the South Africa. The country was administrated as the League of Nations mandate territory till the end of World War II.

Demography of Namibia

The population density of Namibia is the lowest among all sovereign countries. Most of the Namibian people are Black African who mostly belongs to the Ovambo ethnicity and they contribute the fifty percent to the total population of the country. Himba and Herero people are also the part of the country’s population and they speak a same language. Along with the Bantu, Khoisan is a big group living in the country.

Fifty percent of the Namibian people speak Oshiwambo people but German and Afrikaans are the most understood languages in the country. The younger generation is gradually adopting the English language as the both- spoken and written. English is also the official language in the country.

Government and Politics at Namibia

The framework of the Namibian politics is said as the Presidential Representative Democratic Republic. The government and the state of the country are headed by the president who is elected for the five years. The president is also the head of the Multi Party System. The country’s government exercisesthe executive power in the nation.  The legislative power of the country is vested in the both- the National Council and the National Assembly, the bicameral parliament and the Government. The nation’s Judiciary depends upon the both the legislature and executive.

Namibia Culture

The culture of the Namibia is mostly influenced by the Christianity because it is the main dominating religion of the country. Most of the people are the follower of the Roman Catholic. Lutheran Church has the most respective place in the country’s society. The official languages of the country are Afrikaans, German and English but Oshiwambo is spoken by the most of the people.

Education in Namibia

Education system in the country is well developed. The education starts from the pre primary institutions such as nursery schools, crèches and day care centers. When the child becomes six year old, he is considered worth to take admission in primary school. There are many primary schoolsspread over through out the urban as well as suburban areas of the nation. According to the constitution of the country the primary and the secondary school education is compulsory for all the children in the country. The government gives free education to the students up to the primary schools. Each and every student has to complete the 7 years of primary education.

Economy and Infrastructure of Namibia

The Manufacturing and the mining industries is the main base of the economy of Namibia. They contribute 8% to the Gross Domestic Product so called GDP. The unemployment rate of the country is estimated as 30% to 40%. Because of the shared history in between, the economy of the country is very close to the economy of South Africa. In Africa the country is reputed as the forth biggest in terms of non fuel mineral exporters. The country is the great producer of Uranium. In fact it is the fifth biggest in the world in terms of producing uranium. Apart from them country is rich with many other resources such as zinc, tin, lead, tungsten and silver

Namibia Geographical Setting

Namibia covers the 825.418 km of the total area. The landscape of the country consists of 5 geographical areas and each has different climate. The south part of the country includes the Central Plateau, north west includes Skeleton Coast and the Namib Desert. The south part of the country is known for Orange River and the east part introduces to Kalahari Desert.
