When the First Burmese War came to close, the provinces of Tenassarim, Manipur, and Arakan were ceded to the British by the Ava kingdom. In 1853, southern Burma and Rangoon were merged into the British India. When the Third Burmese War got over, indirectly or directly, the entire Burma came into British India. Till 1937, Burma was ruled as the British India’s province. Finally the nation got its independent from the British government on 4th January of 1974.
