The Chile Open is known as the VTR Open Tennis and it is a part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. In 2014 VTR open tennis was changed to Royal Guard Open Tennis. Held annually in Viña del Mar, Chile, the tournament is played on outdoor red clay courts. Sponsored by Royal Guard, this professional men’s tennis tournament is the first event of the four-tournament Golden Swing.

The inaugural edition was held in Santiago in November 1993. The tournament did not take place in 1999 as ATP decided to change the schedule to February 2000. In 2001, the event relocated to Viña del Mar and in 2010 it moved back to Santiago, afterward returning again to Viña del Mar in 2012.

In 2007, the event was played in a 24-player round robin format. The ATP discovered some problems with the format and switched back to old play-off format in 2008.

The VTR Open has witnessed participation of top tennis players. Notably, eleven-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal played in this tournament for the first time in 2013 after losing at the 2012 Wimbledon Championship.

In 2015, the Royal Guard Open held from 2nd February to 8th February.
