HistoryIt is considered that Malawi was once known as Maravi state that was founded by Chewa people during 16th century. The territory was once the British protectorate of the Nyasaland in the year 1891. Later it became an independent country of Malawi. The country was having one-party rule for almost three decades that came to an end in the year 1994 when a multiparty election was held under the President Hastings Kamuzu BANDA. DemographyThe name Malawi has been derived from the word Marvie that refers to Bantu People. They belong to southern Congo. The 90% of the population of the country is contributed by the Chewas. Apart from them Asians and Europeans also serve the population of the country. Government and PoliticsThe Malawi Congress Party headed the government of the country around 31 years. Malawi became republic in the year 1966 and in the same year the nation was declared as one party state. The entire citizens were compelled to be the member of the particular party, Under Banda. The system was continued till 1993 and from the 1993 the country politics and government adopted the multiparty system. According to the constitution of 1995, the president is the head of the country’s government and also plays the role of the chief of state. He is elected through a direct election held on every five year. The president is assisted by vice President who is also elected with the President. The President has a right to appoint one more vice President but he should be from other party. The National Assembly is having 193 seats and all the members of the assembly are elected for the fiver year term. As per the constitution the judiciary of the nation is independent and the judicial system of Malawi is based on English model. CultureThough the culture of Malawi has also been influenced with the modernization, but still the traditional culture is enjoying a healthy breath in some areas; especially the villages are carrying the flavor of the ancient tradition of Malawi. EducationThe primary school education is compulsory in the country. For taking admission in the primary school, the child should of minimum 6 year.
