Hadleigh farm is chosen for the mountain bike course for Olympics 2012 games and approved by International Cycling Union (UCI). Hadleigh farm is located twenty five miles away from the Olympic park in Stratford. It is located in Essex and is close to Basildon and Southend. The farm is owned by Salvation Army for more than hundred years. It is almost 900 acres of land. Hadleigh farm is flanked by the Hadleigh Country Park on one side and Hadleigh Castle on the other side. Hadleigh farm is known for its excellent legacy. The part of land that is included for the event is 550 acres of beautiful land having grass and stony path. The hosting of mountain bike games of Olympics 2012 has given a great opportunity to Essex which will help it to maintain and explore its sports, education and business. The Hadleigh farm cross country course will be situated next to 700 years old Hadleigh Castle. The Lakeside shopping centre is few hours’ drive from the Hadleigh farm.
Reaching Hadleigh farm
The spectators can reach to the Hadleigh farm by road by taking M25 and A13. To travel by train to Hadleigh farm, the spectators need to take a train from the Fenchurch Street in London to the nearby Leigh-on-Sea. The airport nearest to reach Hadleigh farm in Essex is the London Stansted airport.
Challenges for the competitors
The Hadleigh farm landscape provides terrain which will increase the challenges for the competitor’s taking part in the Olympic Games. It includes numerous climbs and rocky descents which will make the mountain bike games exciting. The height has been kept 70m from top till the bottom. Hadleigh farm cross country course consists of large rocks and wooden boarding to add on challenges to the international bike riders. The course is improved so that the spectators can view the mountain bike competitions and develop good television images. The terrain is devoid of dense forests and will give clear view of the spectacular event of the mountain bike games in Olympic 2012.
Capacity of the venue
The Hadleigh farm venue has a capacity of 17000 people standing and sitting arrangement for 3000 people.
The mountain bike event
The mountain bike event is organized Cross Country event. It will start with all the international competitors together and will compete on the course consisting of climbs and descents. Each race which is to be held on the Cross Country course at the Hadleigh farm will have almost 30 to 40 female bike riders and 50-60 male bike riders.
