The London Olympics 2012 has two logos: one of them is used for the bidding process while the other represents the brand for the Games themselves.
The former is a creation of the Kino design and is a ribbon with blue, yellow, black, green, and red stripes creatively winded through the text "LONDON 2012" to resemble the shape of the River Thames in East London. The latter was designed by Wolff Olins and unveiled on the 4th of June, 2007. The new logo artistically represented the number 2012, with the Olympic Rings embedded within the zero beautifully. This year, the same essential logo is going to be used for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the first time.
The London Olympics 2012 mascots were announced on 19 May 2010. The official mascots for London Olympics and Paralympic Games 2012 are Wenlock and Mandeville respectively. This was the second time after the Vancouver Olympics that the mascots for both Olympic and Paralympic Games were unveiled at the same time.
Wenlock and Mandeville depict two drops of steel from a steelworks in Bolton. The mascot for London Olympics, Wenlock, is named after Shropshire town of Much Wenlock which hosted a forerunner of the current Olympic Games. Mandeville, the official mascot for Paralympics is named after Stoke Mandeville, a village in Buckinghamshire. It was the place where the Paralympic Games were first held.
The story concept to the mascots was jotted down by the writer Michael Morpurgo. An animation was also produced to form a part of an ongoing series mascots in the run-up to the Games in 2012.
The London Olympics 2012 Torch Relay is going to commence on 18 May 2012 and will end on 27 July 2012, prior to the 2012 London Olympics. The theme is yet to be decided. Plans for the relay had begun as early as in 2010...More
