Officially Libya is known as the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab. The country is situated in the North Africa, providing the border in north to Mediterranean Sea. The country lies among the Sudan in southeast, Niger and Chad in south, Tunisia and Algeria in west and Egypt in east. The 3 customarily parts of Libya are:

History of Libya:

The Archaeological research shows that from the 8th millennium BC or even more earlier, the coastal plain of the country was populated by the Neolithic citizens who were expert in cultivating the crops and also in domestication of the cattle. The region which in modern times is known as Libya was earlier occupied by large number of the people such as:

  • Carthaginians

Though the Romans and the Greeks left shell at the Leptis Magna, Sabratha and Cyrene.

Demographics of Libya:

The country has small population in large territory. The country has the population density of 3 persons per sq km in 2 northern regions of the Cyrenaica and Tripolitania. Thus, the country is the least density populated country in the entire world. Most of the inhabitant is urban, concentrated to greater extent, in 2 big cities Benghazi and Tripoli.

The country has 2 government branches. Revolutionary sector comprises of the Revolutionary Leader Gaddafi, remaining members of 12 people of the Revolutionary Command Council and Revolutionary Committees that was established in the year 1969.

Culture of Libya:

The country is culturally similar with its neighbor Maghrebian states. The people of the country consider them as the part of the broad Arab community. The state Libya tends to strengthen the approach by considering the Arabic as official language and also forbidding teaching and also the use of Berber language.

Economy of Libya:

Primarily the economy of the country depends on revenue that comes from oil sector that constitute virtually all the earnings from export and approximately one quarter of the GDP. These small population and the oil revenues provides the country the highest GDP per person in the Africa and thus have allowed country to provide the impressive and the extensive stage of the social security, especially in field of the education and housing.

Infrastructure of Libya:

The country Libya enjoys a very good infrastructure and the entire credit goes to the development projects that are organized from the year 1970. In the year 1998, the fossil fuel generator in the country produced the electricity at rate of 16.92 billion kilowatt hours, which was above the consumption. The country has organized the lager scale strategy for the expansion that will help the country to increase the consumption which is valued as approximately US$ 6 billion.

Education in Libya:

The education in country is mandatory and free up to secondary level. The country has the highest literacy rate rather than any other country in the North Africa. More than 82% of the citizens are able to write and read. The first university of the country is the University of Libya, which was established after independence in the Benghazi. The major universities in the country are:

The climate of the country is dry in nature.

Independence for Libya:

The country has been withdrawn from the Italy on 10th February 1947 and gained independence from the France and United Kingdom under the United Nation Trusteeship on 24th December 1951.

The capital of Libya is Tripoli which is situated in northwest of Libya. This city was founded by Phoenicians in 7th century BC.

The official currency of the country is Libyan Dinar which is donated by LYD. 1 Libyan Dinar is divided in the 1000 Libyan Dirhams.
