Lesotho History & Etymology-
The early inhabitants of this place came here in the 10th century. The Sotho people had come here first and then local tribes at different times came and rule over this entire region. During the first half of the 19th century, the Boer pioneers came and ruled for some time. Then the British came and started dominating the people of this place. Over the years this place has seen lots of ups and downs and like any other African nation, it also had to undergo the period of white exploitation.
When Lesotho got freedom-
Lesotho got freedom from the hands of the UK government in the year 1966.
Lesotho Government & politics-
The government of this country is mainly a constitutional dominion. Now the PM of Lesotho is Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili. Political has always remained a problem for this nation since it got its independence. Even in the last decade we have seen terrible political violence in Lesotho. Thus the government of this country always busy to solve this issue of political crisis. Also natural calamities like draught and lack of water resources have made the lives of the people of Lesotho troublesome. Now the Lesotho Congress for Democracy is the ruling party of this country and the main opposition party is BNP. The Lesotho senate consists of 22 principles chiefs. In the constitution of Lesotho, judge makes all his decisions alone because this constitution doesn’t have any jury system.

Lesotho is almost entirely bordered by the giant African country South Africa.
Lesotho Economy-
The economy of this nation mainly rotates around the water sold to the neighbouring nation South Africa. Though Lesotho has a strong pull of labours but due to lack of job opportunities they have to search for jobs in various other African nations. Lesotho is also popular for exporting things like; wool, clothing, footwear and diamonds. As we see that Lesotho is totally surrounded by South Africa, its economic growth and other economic factors are also integrated by South Africa. Small scale farming is another source of economy for the people of this country. Baring water there is no other natural resources that can found in Lesotho and for that Lesotho over the years has not been able to expand the infrastructure for industrial development. But the latest government is concentrating to solve this problem.
Lesotho Demographics-
The demographics of Lesotho actually give an overall idea about the health, education and general condition of the people of this country. Due to increasing population, this country has been suffering heavily from the curse of poverty. British domination had also affected a lot to this country. The population of this country is made of several local tribes, ancient races along with the modern migrant people from the neighbouring countries. Basotho is the mainlanguage spoken by the people of this country; other sub-groups are- Nguni, Baphuthi, Bataung and the Cape Nguni. To talk about the religion of Lesotho, we need to mention Roman Catholic, Anglican along with the other local languages.
Lesotho Culture-
Music of Lesotho is quite famous in whole African continent. Musical instrument like lekolulo, played mainly by men is unique to this country. The national anthem of this country is "Lesotho Fatše La Bo-ntata Rona”. Another attractive cultural exuberance of Lesotho is the ‘Morija Arts and Cultural Festival’. Organized in the historical town called Morija, this has always been an absolute treat for the tourists to this country. Once Lesotho was considered as one of the musical hubs of whole African continent.
Lesotho Education-
Illiteracy is a huge curse of this country. Almost 86% of the total population of Lesotho is not literate. The governement of this country has started taking initiatives to solve this problem for the last 2-3 years. But it must be confessed that this particular issue has always been ignored by the ruling parties of this country for various reasons. Today Lesotho is one of the most illiterate countries of entire African continent.
