Iraq is a country which is situated in the Western Asia spanning in most of range of the Zagros Mountain in the northwestern end, in the Arabian Desert in the northern part and in the Syrian Desert at eastern part. The country shares its boundary with the Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in the south, Turkey in north, Syria in northwest, Iran in the east and Jordan in the West.

History of Iraq:

Historically the region of the country was known as the Mesopotamia. The country was home to Sumerian culture, which was the first identified civilization in the entire world, which is followed by the Assyrian, Akkadian and the Babylonian cultures.  These civilizations had brought few of the former writing and few of first mathematics, philosophies, sciences and law of the entire world.

Demographics of Iraq:

Approximately 70 to 80% of the country’s population is Arabs. Other main racial groups are the:

  • Kurds
  • Turkmen
  • Iraqi

These all racial groups live in the northeast and in the north of the Iraq. Other different groups are:

  • Armenians
  • Marsh Arabs
  • Persians

The official languages of the country are the Kurdish and Arabic. The Turkmen and the Assyrian are the official languages in the regions where Iraqi and Assyrians are situated respectively. The most common western language which is widely spoken is English.

The federal government of the country is expressed under the recent constitution as democratic, Islamic, federal parliamentary republic. The federal government of the country is composed of judicial, executive and legislative branches and all the several independent commissions. Beside from federal government all the areas, districts and the governorates in the country within the jurisdiction over the different subjects are defined by the law.

Culture of Iraq:

The country has been made from the 5 cultural areas. The Arabs in middle approximately in Baghdad, Kurdish in north center on the Arbil, Arabs in south center on Basra, Marsh Arabs who were the nomadic people lives on the marshland of Central River and the Assyrians who were the Christian people live in the different cities located in the north. The most usual form of the business in the country is the bartering and trade.

Economy of Iraq:

The economy of the country is dominated by oil sector, traditionally which has provided approximately 95% of the earnings of the foreign exchange. The financial problem in the year 1980 which was caused by the huge expenditure in 8th year war with the country and made the damage to the facilities of the oil export by the Iran which led government of the country implementing the austerity measures, heavily borrowing and the payment of the foreign debts.

Infrastructure of Iraq:

In the year 1990, the infrastructure of the country was the best in Middle East. Nevertheless in the mid of 1980’s the years of clash, misdirecting resources and the effect of the centralized economy of the country has muffles the development and the economic growth, curtailing the ability of the country for investing in the current infrastructure and also maintaining the existing facilities.

Education in Iraq:

The 6 years of the primary education is compulsory in the country with the effect from year 1978. In the year 2000 the estimates of 44% adults were illiterate. In the year 1996, there were 8,145 primary schools with the total students 2,903,923 with the 145,455 teachers. The ratio of the student’s teacher was 20:1. In the primary level the ratio among the teachers and students were the 21:1.
