ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Useful Links

Cricket nations are ready to get on to the battlefield which would begin from Feb 14th, 2015 and end up with a final match on March 29th 2015. This year in Australia and New Zealand will jointly host the 11th edition of ICC Cricket World Cup. The Australia and New Zealand raised the bids to host the game in the year 2019 and was given hosting rights to Australia and New Zealand which had originally bid to host 2011 World Cup. The same year hosting rights were given to India to host 2011 World Cup and Australia & New Zealand were given hosting rights for the year 2015 World Cup with England to host the 2019 World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar, who has been the Ambassador for the year 2011 World Cup and was nominated by ICC as the Ambassador for the 11th edition of the year 2015 World Cup for the second time.

Previously Australia and New Zealand hosted the world cup in the year 1992 for the 5th edition. India are the defending champions, who have won the 2011 world cup which was held in Indian Subcontinent by defeating the Srilankan team in the finals.

The much awaiting match between the arch rivals India and Pakistan, match tickets were sold out in the initial 12 min of booking.

Format & World Cup 2015 Venues:

The tournament will include 14 teams with two groups of seven each and letting each team plays 6 matches in the tournament before they exit from the competition. The top four notche into the quarters with four followed to the semifinals, leading two teams to the final. The Australia will be hosting 26 games and New Zealand with 23 games with a total of 49 matches that are to be held in 14 Venues. The 14 venues are Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney in Australia, followed by Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Napier, Nelson and Wellington in New Zealand.

Surprising knock from the selectors in each team, which excluded the top performers in the game.

West Indies

This started with the controversy in the team selection of West Indies that excluded the top players with huge experience T&T pair Bravo and Pollard. Defending the selection committee Clive Lloyd, raised that the team was at the bottom for more than eight years. Giving away leading cap to a young bowler Jason Holder, who hasn’t played even 30 matches. The internal issues with the WICB and the two players Bravo and Pollard let exclude from the world cup team, though the reason given by Clive Lloyd was not logical. The team player and one of the members of the squad Chris Gayle called the non selection of Bravo and Pollard as the “ridiculous”. Australia

Clarke, who has been included in the team, recovering from injury that put him away from four test series against India and Tri-series. The chairman of National Selection Panel Australia Rod Marsh, would like to give each and every opportunity to Clarke to get back from the injury. The team would check his status on healing by match against Bangladesh and would then decide to proceed with further. If Clark wouldn’t make it, George Bailey will lead the team with Shaun Marsh as the replacement. Xavier has been included in the team as a main spinner, leaving Nathan Lyon from the squad. More...

South Africa

All rounder Ryan McLaren couldn’t get into the squad due to selector preferring Farhaan Behardien in his place. Robin Peterson and Lonwabo Tsotsobe were not included in the team for the World Cup, who were replaced by Aaron Phangiso (Spinner), Kyle Abbott and Wayne Parnell ahead of the left armer. De kock is the only player in the team who was injured and recovering back to fit by the time of the tournament and the team hasn’t decided yet for a replacement of the player, if not recovered by the time. India Squad for the World Cup:

India has ditched the star performer and man of the series in the World cup 2011. Considering Yuvaraj performance in Ranji trophy, with back to back hundreds led the hopes of millions of Indian fans that he would be a part of the team for the World Cup. Virender Sehwag has grabbed attention with back to back centuries for Delhi in Ranji Trophy, neither he was picked in the squad. The team includes only four players who were part of the winning team for the year 2011 and the rest being new faces for the world cup. Ravindra Jadeja, who is part of the team recovering from shoulder injury will lead the team with two other spinners R Ashwin and Axar Patel. The surprising thing raised from the squad for 2015 world cup was Stuart Binny and Axar Patel. Pacers Umar Gul and Bilawal Bhatti, who were left off from side considering their injuries and couldn’t be fit by the time of the world cup. Younis Khan and Sohail Khan were included in the squad as sohail last represented team in the year 2011. Sibanda will be missing the team as the selection skipped him and Hamilton Masakadza, Utsey will be part of the world cup team.
