Etymology & History
The early history of this country is largely associated with the Spanish invasion and those different terms (Guaymuras, Higueras and then Honduras) used by the Spanish to refer this place. From history, we come to know that Honduras has multi-ethnicity. During the 5th century the ancient Xupki kingdom existed here. Then the Spanish came here and ruled for a long period of time. This place then was almost totally covered by forests and mountains. Football, like any South American country, is the life of the people of this country. Infact there was a soccer-war between El Salvador & Honduras in the last century which had made this country quite famous.
Geographical setting & the neighbouring countries Honduras is bordered by Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The exquisite tropical climate attracts many tourists from all over the globe to this country. This country is mainly covered by several mountains and it has some of the fabulous landscapes that would please any traveler. The dense forests and the Sula valley is worldly famous for its beauty. La Mosquitia has even got a place in the UNESCO-world heritage site. The Coco River is another beautiful natural beauty to witness here. Honduras is rich in its mine collections like gold, copper, silver and zinc.
Demographics
Almost 92% of the Honduran people belong to the Mesitzo race. Various indigenous groups all together have made Honduras. Different tribes like the Chorti, Garifuna, paya Indians, Tolupan, Lenca etc can be seen living in different parts of this country. Violence and discrimination has remained as a big problem of this country.
Economy
one of the most poverty-stricken countries of the entire western Hemisphere, the economic growth of Honduras has remained very slow for many years. The number of unemployed people is 1.3 million and the economic condition of this country is indeed in a very poor state. The World Bank has been helping Honduras for years but the situation hardly seems to change. People in general find it hard to survive and the commodities are also not very cheap. But the government has started taking some initiatives and hopefully the economic growth of this country will improve in near future.
Culture
Honduras is one of the most culturally equipped countries in this entire continent. This place has given birth to numerous painters and writers. Even the great musician like Rafael Coello Ramos, Victoriano Lopez, G Anderson, Francisco Carranza etc were born in this country. A blend of French and even Spanish culture can also be found in this country. The cultural sense among the people of this country can be seen very prominently and Hondurans are very interested in subjects like art, painting and music. While visiting this country, you also can’t afford to miss the Honduran cuisine which is really tasty and it will be a great experience for you.
Government and politics
There are various problems in this country and it can be state that one of the big reasons behind such a condition is because of the instable political condition here over the years. The new government, under the president Ricardo Maduro, came into power in 2001. But things don’t seem to change much. The economic growth of Honduras needs to develop very quickly.

The capital city of San Pedro Sula is a city where you can travel and do your necessary shopping. The infrastructure is still a matter of concern in this city because it needs to be developed to attract more number of foreign tourists. But here you can get some restaurants where you will be getting most of the European dishes along with some famous African cuisines.
