History and Etymology
Sea faring people are considered as the discoverer of Guam. These people were migrated from the southeastern Indonesia about 2000 B.C. When the European arrived in the country; chamorro society was dominating the nation and was categorized in 3 classes- Matua, achaot, and mana’schang that mean upper class, middle class and lower class respectively.
Spain ceded Guam to United State in 1898. In 1941 Japan captured the country and ruled it for three years. Then Guam came in custody of United State.
Previous records and medals
For long the time the country has been a good participant as well as an energetic supporter of South Pacific Games since 1963 when the event was held first. In 1966, in same event, a bronze medal was won by the country’s team. Though the country has won many medals but the maximum of the medal were got in swimming competition.
Demography
The biggest ethnic group in Guam is Chamorro that covers the 75 percent of the country’s population. Filipino, white, Japanese, Chinese and the Korean ancestry are some of the other ethnic group in Guam. The predominating religion in the country is Roman Catholicism that claims the 85 % of the total population of the nation.
Government and Politics
The famously elected governor & the unicameral legislature govern Guam. The members of the legislature are called senators. The citizens of the country vote in the straw poll of the general election of the U.S Presidential. To send delegates to Democratic and Republican national conventions, the country is not having race of in national presidential.
Culture Education
The culture of Guam reveals in Chamorro culture that is manifested in music and dance, sea navigation, fishing, games, unique cuisine, fashion and songs. The core culture of Chamorro has been comprised of the complex social-behavior that is centered on respect: as a general etiquette, the people kiss elder’s hand when they meet: people request forgiveness from the ancestor while going to enter into the jungle or the ancient battle field.
Education
As far as the education of Guam is concerned, the primary education is served by the Guam Public School System through out the country. According census of 2000, Guam Public School is having 3200 enrolled students. The school was participated by the U.S Department of Defense but in 1998, it ended its participation from the school. The Department of Defense opened its own school called DoDEA and it teaches the children of the military personnel.
Economy and Infrastructure
Well developed tourism industry is the main base of the economy of Guam. And apart from this, its economy depends also on local businesses and the installation of Department of Defense. The country does not receive any foreign aid but it receives a huge transfer payment form general revenues. For last two decades the country has experienced a rapid growth in tourism industry with opening of numbers of good hotel. It is estimated that one million foreign tourists visit the country, and therefore the country get good foreign currency every year.
Guam’s commercial port is the lifeline of island that plays a significant role in importing the various products and some time in export as well. For more than 500,000 customers, the port plays a role of trans-shipment hub. Antonio B. Won International Airport is the regional hub for the Continental Micronesia. The particular airport serves the whole country.
Geographical Setting
Guam is located between the 13.2°N & the 13.7°N, between the 144.6°E and the145.0°E. The country covers the area of 209 sq mile that stand for 541 km².
Island’s northern part includes the dense area of forests where as the south part includes many volcanic peaks but these are also covered with grassland and forests. The coral reef is surrounded in the most part of the island. Only bays existing areas are untouched with the coral reefs.

Hagatna is the capital city of the country and is the centre location of Chamorro people. The city plays a significant role in tourism industry with its main shopping centers as well as beautiful stunning beaches.
